Mary Gaspard, genannt Molly, hat gerade eben 120 Teeswater-Schafe geerbt und ist kurz vor Weihnachten in den kleinen englischen Ort Little Hamperton gezogen. Die vermeintliche Idylle erweist sich jedoch als trügerisch, denn die Einheimischen sind sicher, dass ein Werwolf umgeht. Da ist es beruhigend, dass Mollys neuer Nachbar, Lennard McLaughlin, häufig vorbeikommt, um nach ihr zu sehen. Während in Little Hamperton fleißig für den Weihnachtsbazar der biologischen Erzeugergemeinschaft gestrickt und gebacken wird, vermisst Molly plötzlich eins ihrer Schafe. Entnervt beschließt sie, zwei Hüte-Lamas zu kaufen. Und als sie mit den beiden nach Little Hamperton zurückkehrt, ist plötzlich alles ganz anders. Besonders ihr Nachbar Lennard. Er scheint sie zu meiden, wo es nur geht. Als sie dann eines morgens Kratzer von mächtigen Krallen an ihrem Fensterladen findet, wird es höchste Zeit, herauszufinden, was in Little Hamperton eigentlich vorgeht!
