Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.

They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.

Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.

But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way - even if it kills her.

Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.

Critic Reviews

"[Marrs'] most sinister novel to date." --Daily Express

"An excellent psychological thriller. A one-sitting read about a daughter who keeps her mother locked in the attic. Twisty, moving, and chilling." --Sarah Pinborough, bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes

"A tense, thrilling read - I found it impossible to put down. It’s dark and twisted, and I loved it." --Alex Michaelides, bestselling author of The Silent Patient

Twisted Dark tale

one thing is for sure, there is no dull moment in this book. It's Dark, it's stomach wrenching, yet you keep invested into the characters. Full marks to the author

One time Read maybe Found it a bit dull

I read this based on the review however dint like it much. it's not a stunner and I caught on quick who is doing the killing . In between the story was a bit of a drag with Maggie's incarceration and Nina's routine. not my cup of tea for a psycological thriller with twists.

Absolute stunner🤯

I have never thought I would enjoy a thriller this much as I was never much into them and the moment I started listening to this I knew that I am not gonna stop listening to it until it's finished and that moment is now and I am at loss of words to describe how this book had made me feel. I wouldn't want to leave any spoilers or sneak peeks into the book because it was already done in the description part because that would take away the thrill. What I have to tell you is if you are reading this review of mine.....just pick this book without hesitating for a moment and I bet you won't regret that moment even for a moment once you start listening to this. The story was amazing for sure because if it wasn't I wouldn't listen to it until the end and that's why I have written such a long review but but but the narrator has done a splendid job too which is the most important reason why I loved my first ever audible book.
Kudos to both narrator and the writer. Thank you ❤

wow

I questioned myself and the two MCs so many times. This was an amazing experience. The narrator was amazing. I am a sucker for happy endings but maybe this time, it was for the better.

Fantastically Gruesome

The psychological warfare between the mother and the daughter is unthinkable. The red herrings are used in an interesting way. I loved the way the author has described mundane things in such an interesting manner.

The narrator was captivating throughout. The tension in few scenes came across very well.

Read this if you want to waste your time!

I was very disheartened reading this book. There was no redemption or growth for any character. The whole story had too much darkness, malice, selfishness, and arrogance couched as compassion. Why would the author write such a dark story? Nina never really understood why she behaved the way she did and did the things she did. Maggie eventually understood her mistakes but she never got the satisfaction that her daughter finally got the care she needed. Neither of the narratives was believable. A lot of the time the reader is made to believe that something else was actually happening while something entirely different happened. The only bright thing was the brilliance audio narrator who did a great job voicing the characters and providing emotion to an otherwise pallid and terrible story.
