Amid the hushed city, two hearts must navigate danger and deception, bound by a love that outshines the stars.
Katherine Schneider’s life as a dentist in 1913 New York is upended when a patient reveals details of a deadly plot while under the influence of laughing gas.
As she is plunged into danger, she seeks help from the dashing Lieutenant Jonathan Birch, a police officer she has long admired from afar.
Jonathan has harbored powerful feelings toward Katherine for years but never acted on them, knowing his dark history is something she could never abide. Now, with her safety on the line, he works alongside her through the nights as they unravel the criminal conspiracy that threatens her … even as he keeps his deepest secrets hidden at all costs.

⚠️minor spoiler alert : C30:12m: like ml thought hiding his family's past wasn't such a big mistake as he isn't supposed to tell fl his family history when they just dated for 3 weeks which would be true had the past wouldn't be putting her life in danger.
• like if your family is dangerous that's the first thing your date deserves to know especially if that family is alive and still has deadly enemies. may be not when it's not serious, but when it gets serious. it's unfair to the party who has to tell it but they were already in love (his only valid excuse is that he could lose his job and police force he considers family if she knew and they got to know), but it's like hiding an extremely abusive mother in law that's not in jail or an STD deliberately, try being in a father's position and see how you like your daughters new bf hiding that. this isn't something like hiding your family used to come from humble origins, which isn't deadly Albeit it may still get scorn from superficial people.
• fl: and instead of pointing this out and addressing the problem with the type of lie, fl was too focused on "oh you lied to me" and treated him with rudeness after he apologized granted that she was sad but still. and then it stayed unaddressed after he said it wasn't that bad and explained why she wasn't perfect either, because she felt guilty about not understanding that he came from a problematic family while she came from a perfect one.
• if both parties act with grudges and say hurtful things both just get ammunition to hurl at each other and then decide as other party hurt them enough they hadn't done something that bad..with no resolution.
a very good one if you like leads with realistic romance..
