Publisher's Summary

There has been a major upheaval at Mount Weather. The president has been assassinated. Her running mate, who was her husband, is sworn in as president in order to preserve democracy, but in only a short time his behavior has put the Mount Weather community in a state of turmoil.

If that wasn't bad enough, Chinese soldiers have been discovered on American soil and the zeds, already an ever present danger, are continuing to show signs of cognition and teamwork. The motives of both are unknown but do not bode well for the survivors.

Loosing me David..

The first few stories in this series are my absolute favorite. As it goes on though I find it stalling out. The characters are not being developed anymore, the plot lines are rushed and under developed. While I like that this book didn’t rely on Zach as much it introduces him at a very bizarre time and is frankly, lame. The dreams and telepathy are going to ruin this series. Might as well listen to Tufo if I wanted some truly hot garbage.
Hopefully Mr. Achord can get back on track in the next one. As soon as this one became interesting, BAM the Chinese are turned into zombies and no one cares to follow up.
The villain comes out of nowhere and throws everything away to get Zack. I feel like every villain does this in this series. It gets tiresome. I do love the Melvin and True storyline, these are good characters who I hope are further developed in the next book.

Fantastic continuation!

Pretty depressed I finished this so quickly! Takes a while to get used to not hearing from Zac and the family because 90% this book is centered around Mount Weather and the chaos they are enduring but it feels good when they get it straightened out... I am dying to hear more about Dong, Clay, Zac and his new home!

Mostly filler for the next book?

There wasn’t much action in this book and any anticipated action I was looking forward to was ended abruptly without any fanfare. This book has to be a set up for future stories (I’m really hoping!) but if it’s not and the rest of the series is this slow it won’t go well for book sales. I still enjoyed it but found myself drifting off while listening.

Wasn’t to bad

Good story but was extremely disappointed that Zack wasn’t in this book until the end I just would’ve liked it if he was in the story a little more

Feels like a well written filler episode.

As I’m sure plenty of readers (listeners) are fans of the genre. I draw quite a few parallels to The Walking Dead story arc, and not just in this book specifically. Without giving too much in the way of spoilers; Crazy leader taking things too far, central focus on building up a society, an outside force making an appearance, Main character conveniently unaccounted for, and the drama that ensues from there. That being said, I in no way mean to degrade the quality of this book. My only real complaint is that my favorite characters didn’t have as much chapter time as I’d like.

All that being said. I felt like this was a classic TWD season ending. It leaves you with questions as to how things will unfold. I personally feel like the placement of this story was perfect to set up the next book for a lot of interesting plot points. As in, what’s going to happen with the “outside force” going forward. I’m willing to bet Zach will investigate. Also, will Zach decide to move forward with the community or go back into his self imposed isolation from mount weather?!

Definitely worth the credit if you’re a fan of the series.

Personally I thoroughly enjoyed

They keep getting better

The title says it all. I just needed 15 words, words, words, words, words, words....

Politics as per usual

This was definitely more of a dramatized oriented approach to the story, not necessarily a bad thing. It was a nice change of pace. Still one of my favorite series.

Sick of the weird female characters...

Sick of the weird super badass female character type. Is every female an amazing killer after one or two days of training? Yes. Are they all super duper strong willed and sassy? Yep! This series started out amazing but the author has slipped into bleak laziness when it comes to character development. It has just began to rely bad characters and no story line. Nicky was just to much...

I didn't even finish the book. The others were really good. This one phoned it in.

Loved this series!

When I started listening to this series, I'll be honest I wasn't expecting much, the reviews had tainted my hopes. I'm a fan of Halstead so I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised!!!
The story is unique and the characters are well developed and mature nicely. It's not the typical zombie drone. It has survival, apocalypse, politics, and human nature, it's a great combo!
Impatiently waiting for more!

Not much Zac, but very good

A bit obvious at times, but enjoyable nonetheless. A good mix of both enjoyable and irritating characters anll well delivered by Graham Halstead.
