Ein heiliger Auftrag führt die Jägerin Lhan ins Gebirge. Als sogenannte Wintermaid soll sie den Winter bezwingen. Doch zwischen den Felsen lauert der Eisgeist, ein blutrünstiger Menschenfresser. Wenn es ihr gelingt, die Bestie als Jagdbeute ins Dorf zu bringen, wird sie als Winterbezwingerin gefeiert. Sollte sie scheitern, wird die Rache des Dorfes grausam sein.
Schon bald wächst in Lhan der Verdacht, dass dies ihr geringstes Problem ist.
