Publisher's Summary

Perfect for fans of Diana Gabaldon, this thrilling Highlander romance is based on the women who risked their lives to deliver messages to the Jacobites.

Brogan Grant, a Jacobite soldier, fought savagely on the battlefield and barely escaped capture. On the run, Brogan comes across what he thinks is a spy - a bonny lass disguised as a lad, who happens to be the daughter of his clan’s enemy. He admires her bravery, but he knows what can happen to a woman alone in a war-ravaged land.

Fiona MacBean is determined to do her part to ensure there’s a Scottish king. In disguise, she delivers coded messages to rebels. There’s only one thing impeding her mission - a striking Highlander hell-bent on sending her home.

Fiona will not be deterred. Left with little choice, Brogan agrees to join her if she agrees to return home after. Now, the two must risk everything to save the life of Bonnie Prince Charlie. If only their hearts weren’t also at risk....

Not so much

Best thing going for this story is Justine Eyre. The actual story is pretty dull. How can you write a boring story about Scottish freedom? Not much romance, not much action (and considering it deals with the battle at Culloden!)... just A LOT of chatter about thoughts. WAY to much *thinking * outloud. I will probably return such a frustrating snooze.

Loved This

This was the first in the series that I read. I found it so easy to just jump into the story. Fiona was such a wonderful female character. I loved our handsome dude Brogan. I was hooked on the story of a female spy immediately. The romance was nice and steamy. I would love to read more in this series and more by this author. The narration was fabulous!

The Title is Bad, the Story is so-so

It’s mindless lightweight romance. The two main characters might be bad to the bone in fights, but they are numbskulls in love and act like three year olds. Eliza is at her mediocre best, and quite possibly called it in while asleep. Justines’s voice is ever so lovely, as usual, and she can do a number of accents well. When she is narrating and not voicing a character, she sounds like a refined society lady, but she certainly rolls up her sleeves and dives right into the descriptive, bawdy bedroom scenes. Aside from fatigue of obligatory sex, I grow weary of authors searching for alternate words for body parts. What with the nub, fold, heat, length and member, why not just call it what it is? Still, this book is good for what it is. Just don’t expect too much from it.

Boring and plagued with long musings

Most of the story was just inner dialogue or thoughts that didn't move the story along. I found my mind drifting away and not listening. The narrator was mostly good, loved the narration it's only that now and then she switched from a Scottish access to an Irish one, sometimes in the middle of a sentence. DNF - just so boring I couldn't stay focused.

Fast paced story

Enjoyable listen, just wish the main male voice wasn’t so stiff sounding. I look forward to listening to more.

You've Got Plaid

Another incredible read from Eliza Knight! She constructs het characters in such a way as to make them real. I can close my eyes and run her stories through my head like watching a movie. Her attention to every little detail makes the sounds, smells, & actions seem real! Great series, Easy to recommend, Don't miss out on this one. Comes in audio also with Justine Eyre providing an awesome narration. 😍

WOW!

Great book! I had recently discovered this author and blew through most of her books on Audible! This book was great! I loved the intrigue, the romance, and the fact that the heroine was not a simpering idiot and could actually think for herself! I’ll be reading/listening to more of Eliza Knight you can be sure! Also the narrator Justine Eyre was awesome as well!

Loved the story

Loved every second of this story. Can't say the same about the narrator though. At least not for Brogan's voice can't bear the heros voices in this series. But I still wish there were more stories to come, maybe Eaze's (not sure about how to spell his name) story. The whole series is definitely worth the credits.
