Im Königreich Florapis geht es bergab, seit der Sohn des Königs an den Amtsgeschäften beteiligt ist.

Der Prinz wurde als Kind von einer Biene gestochen und hat seitdem Angst vor allem und jedem. Auf seine Anordnung hin wird eine Mauer rings um die Stadt gebaut – gegen den Widerstand vieler Bürger. Verdruss und Streit machen sich breit in Florapis.

Der Baulärm lockt einen jungen, hungrigen Tatzelwurm namens Pankratz an, dessen liebste Speise menschliche Ideen sind. Wer von ihm angezapft wird, versinkt in Zweifel und Mutlosigkeit.

Zu allem Überfluss ist Pankratz auch noch unsichtbar – nur die junge Ava vermag ihn zu sehen, und nur sie durchschaut die Zusammenhänge. Ava tut alles, damit sich die Dinge in Florapis wieder zum Guten wenden, aber bis dahin ist es ein weiter Weg voller Abenteuer und Gefahren.
