Im Hafravatn, einem See in der Nähe von Reykjavík, wird ein Tourist mit schweren Kopfverletzungen tot aufgefunden. Der Mann wurde offenbar ermordet. Erste Ermittlungen ergeben, dass er der Freund eines vor Jahrzehnten verschwundenen Mannes war. Als der pensionierte Kommissar Konrád davon erfährt, wird er hellhörig und beginnt auf eigene Faust zu ermitteln. Mit der Verbindung des Ermordeten zu dem Vermisstenfall aus den 1970er Jahren holt ihn dann seine eigene Vergangenheit ein. Je intensiver Konráð sich mit dem Fall beschäftigt desto mehr wird ihm die Atmosphäre aus der Zeit des Kalten Krieges wieder gegenwärtig, das unbestimmte Gefühl von Wut - und das Denken in Gut-Böse-Kategorien ...
