Publisher's Summary

I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course, there’s a catch - all I have to do to claim my birthright is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true, as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

The school they’ve sent me to is both dangerous as s--t and one helluva party. Vampires bite weaker students in the corridors, the Werewolf pack has orgies in the Wailing Wood at every full moon, and don’t even get me started on the dark and twisted ways the Sirens use their powers on people’s emotions, or how my sinfully tempting Cardinal Magic teacher hosts detentions that leave people needing therapy. Classes are totally interesting if you manage to live through them. And that Gemini star sign I mentioned? It now determines my elemental magic and affects my destiny, so learning astrology is essential if I’m going to beat down my classmates - which is actively encouraged, by the way.

My biggest problem is the droolworthy Dragon shifter who has his eyes on my throne. He and his three psycho friends are determined to make my time here hell. All I’ve got to do is survive. But fate might have other ideas. Dammit, why couldn’t I have gotten a letter to Hogwarts?

This is a dark, bully romance - don’t go expecting a sweet school for magic with friends around every corner. Fae fight for everything they own and Zodiac Academy is a cutthroat school for students aged 18+ where only the strongest prevail. There’s no Dumbledore here to save anyone’s a-s, and Lionel Acrux will give Voldemort a run for his money in the evil dictator category. So hold onto your stardust (broomsticks not required) and get ready for a bumpy ride.

This is not ‘hot bullying’

This is not my first bully romance by any means, however the bullying in this gets progressively worse and irritating. In other bully romances, yes the guy is horrible and cruel but they show moments of kindness, there’s some balance. This story had very few such moments.... The twins are the victims yet you can’t help but dislike them too. I’m not looking for a Mary Sue but dang can’t they learn more? The authors barely talked about them practicing at all! We don’t have to be at the point where we can kick the celestial heir’s bums but not even their minions? Seriously? And apparently it’s like that until the 5th book, Not sure if I can hang on long enough even though I love the story’s premise and astrology.

No girl power!

The heroines we're fairly worthless. They were as clueless about magic at the end of the book as they were at the beginning. Perhaps if the writer wasn't so busy planning the next possible rape or torture they could have squeezed some time in for the heroines to actually learn some magic. Strong start but you keep waiting for a climax that never happens.

Not worth the hype

I was excited to read listen to this book, but was sadly disappointed by the end of it. The story line started off good and I was excited to see where the story went with the two main characters. Halfway through the book it felt like the character's descriptions of being strong twins bonded together from a rough upbringing was completely forgotten. They went from strong to weak in a matter of 2 days at the academy. The bullying was obsessive, and no glimps of hope came from the constant foolishness that the girls had when being bullied. There was no reason that the girls should have shown a glimpse of liking to the boys after what they put them through, alcohol or not. I also found it difficult to see an kind of romantic relationship forming between the girls and the boys in the upcoming books. Seriously how is any of the bullying okay with them enough to start seeing them later on in the series??? I was also waiting for the girls to harness their power.....even a little bit but was again disappointed when they were right where they started from the beginning of the book.

Eh

I really wanted to love this, with girls that have been through so much they are easily tricked whiny. There is no thread of strength. I had to see if this was written by a man. Nope.. it made me sad that the writers felt the need to make strong women so weak especially when it comes to sex. The story could be so amazing.

just the first couple chapters made me turn it off

this book is all about a bunch if rich boys picking on females and humiliating them in front of everyone...mental abuse and some physical abuse as well...if that's what you like great, but it ain't for me.

Aurora Academy series was sooooooo much better.

I remember listening to the audio sample and decided not to purchase it. Then I came across the Aurora Academy series and loved it. But what I didn’t know was both were part of the same story line. So after being so happy with Aurora Academy I decided to purchase Zodiac Academy. How disappointing! There were several parts of the book that made zero sense. I skipped at least 4 chapters just to get to the good stuff. I didn’t miss anything because of the constant drawn out repeat of what they went through. I’m truly hoping that book 2 isn’t as overly dramatic and makes more sense like the Aurora Academy one. I do really like the story line.

storyline is promising but...

the storyline is promising but the first book truthfully doesn't move the storyline past weak women who don't know anything nor do they learn anything. the last chapter was great, however the rest of the book was a repetition over and over.

I’m Gemini… No wait WE are gemini or WE ARE TWINS

So im just 7 chapters in and I’m considering to put it down.
1. It’s not one main character but 2, twins none the less.
2. The “sexual tension” is the girls being assaulted and bullied by the higher ups.
And 3. It’s the typical “ your from another world and not only that but you are royals”
If it was less attention to how the boys look and actually think that “ hmm, this is assault. Maybe not have that in here and calling it “sexual tension” is the way to go.”
It has potential with the magic and fantasy era, but it misses when it tries to be steamy.
Another thing that bothers me is the miss leading intro to the book. Had it said we are Gemini and we are fae, it would have been more true then “ I am Gemini and I am fae.”
I picked it up on a recommendation from tiktok expecting a bad ass leading lady who tries to build her powers and gets beef with the bad boy of the school who actually falls for her. But was thrown in some mello drama of twin sisters where one is cute and quiet while the other is a total “I don’t care- bitch” and ohh shit they are long lost princesses who went missing years ago.

Meh..

I found the environment and magic system quite interesting and would love to explore in the future. I came into this book with the expectation for it to be steamy, but even still, all I got was a story about girls who talked about being strong, with the story attempting to keep sexual tension as if it was OK, completely glossing over the fact that they were assaulted and bullied. I love enemies to lovers / rival dynamics any day, but this just felt like the twins were dumb, for some reason always focusing on the guys looks, even when they were in situations no real horny person would ever be horny about. Certain scenes it did work, but the horniness was too much, and I've read much spicer stories. There honestly wasn't much pay off for the sexual tension to work and the girls were just punching bags throughout the whole story, where there was constant repetition of the same things about "not letting them get the satisfaction" or "being stronger than they think" with no actions to back it up. I find this to be quite a shame, as I genuinely enjoyed following the characters when they weren't unnecessarily ogling each other. The twist at the end kept me hooked and I think it was well executed especially with Darcy, however I don't know if I'll continue reading as the constant pushing the girls around with not much proper development on their side has put me off. If they learned any proper magic at all or if what they did learn had actual impact, I'd probably overlook the poorly executed sexual tension. I was waiting for one of the to finally snap, and let the heirs show they need to take them more seriously, show SOME potential. However no such thing happened and I felt quite disappointed.

I'll be back for more

Well I've been waiting a long time to start Zodiac Academy and I don't know how I feel about it.

Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti have certainly created a world that readers will visit more than once. Even if some of the characters are reprehensible!

I got a 'Harry Potter -The College Years' vibe from The Awakening and will certainly be coming back for more.

The trials and tribulations facing Darcy and Tory have only just begun in this first novel and I'm sure we'll be graced with more shenanigans as the girls' time at The Zodiac Academy progresses.

Couldn't read more

Well, it was a book suggested to me and though I was curious in the beginning and give it a shot.. well, it is not as intriguing as it seems and honestly I got tired because the bullying was constant, everyone is enemy and it is so fake the whole thing.. No, this book lacks adventure and suspense and interesting characters. It lacks many things. The performance was the only good thing.

These ladies could use a thesaurus

The main characters are unfazed by the new world they are thrown into and seem more bothered about the looks of the men that are horrid to them. Get better role models and avoid this book

Bad is an understatement

So poorly written, terrible characters that are somehow all assholes, sadly can't find one redeeming quality about this book.

chapter on chapter of detailed bullying

I only made it to chapter 11 before I decided I most definitely have better things to do. If I wanted to be reminded about how horrible bullying and emotional torture can be I would go online and read true stories or watch the news. it just carried on and on and on....congratulations after 15 years with audible I am returning my first book ever. it was also extremely difficult to follow who was talking ...Tory or Darcy. i am hoping the book gets better, but I have had enough to not even want to try

Potential gone to waste

I feel like the story didn’t really develop. I could tell you almost the same information about where the story was going from the first few chapters as I could at the end. The bullies repeatedly triumph. The main characters just seem immature and unwilling to apply themselves. Whilst the bullies are cruel and no one deserves that abuse…. They could have worked a lot harder to protect themselves and learn about themselves. I don’t feel they grew at all throughout the book.

I’ve read better, more interesting fan-fiction

Honestly I don’t understand the hype, I read better fan-fictions when I was a kid. I literally rolled my eyes or laughed out loud at some of the bad writing.
Between misogynistic male characters, and at times female characters, sexual assaults and harassment, I honestly think this book does more damage for young women than it does good.

why do people rave about this book

I'm sorry but this book is crap. There, I said it! I spent the first hour hoping it was going to get better, it didn't.
The narrator does a decent enough job with the terrible material she has but the story... Where do I even start.
The male main characters do not have 1 redeemable quality. The female leads are annoying, and naive.
The story line itself.... yeah, nah.
Look, do yourself a favour; if you're here because you like Maas, and someone told you this is good.... run away now! it's crap.

Listened to it in parallel with the boys' one

I don't know what it would have been like if I didn't listen to this from the boys' perspective at the same time (switching between them each chapter) but I really enjoyed the story and the plot development this way. Definitely will be continuing on and recommend for JLA, SJM fans.
