【解説】田中英光は、「オリンポスの果実」で知られるが、太宰治、坂口安吾らとともに無頼派作家に名を連ねる。太宰に弟子入りし、その死に衝撃を受け催眠剤中毒が悪化、太宰の墓前で後追い自殺をした。坂口は、”太宰も田中も半獣神で半貴族で、その壁にぶつかって自滅したようなものである”と書いている――。 『離魂』は「忘れかけた名品」と評されている。36歳にして初めて肉体の恋を知った「私」が、若い愛人との情欲におぼれ、強力催眠剤と酒とで泥酔して狼藉を働き、女の多淫多情に嫉妬し、女に翻弄され金を巻き上げられるなどの無頼な日々が描かれている。 自殺1年前の太宰(文中「津島治」)の仕事部屋を女連れで訪ねた「私」は、一緒に死んだT子さんらと始まった酒盛りと太宰のお道化ぶり、そこに、太宰が死に憩を願い求めていた気持ちを重ねるように書いている。そして、太宰の死を機に、「私」の日々はさらに無頼なものになっていく・・・。ちくま文庫『短篇礼讃』(大川渉編)所収。 (C)wis
