  • Time Segmenting and Profit Harvesting: A Different Approach to Retirement Planning
    Sep 21 2026

How much can a risk questionnaire really tell you about a client’s risk tolerance?

Brendan Ryan talks with Paul Binnion of VestGen Investment Management about time segmentation and profit harvesting—two concepts they use to help insulate retirement plans from market risk and clients from emotional decisions.

They also discuss why retirement planning should account for when clients will need different portions of their wealth, not just how much risk they’re willing to take.

  • Getting Families to Talk About Money
    Aug 12 2026

Talking about money with family can be uncomfortable. But these conversations can prevent problems, strengthen family relationships, help clients enjoy their wealth while they’re alive, educate younger generations and deepen the advisor’s relationship with the whole family.

In this episode of the Advisor Turntable Podcast, Brendan Ryan talks with financial advisor Traci Garnett-Froscheiser about how she makes family financial conversations a regular part of her practice.

    They discuss:

    • Simple ways to bring family and estate conversations into annual client reviews
    • How advisors can serve as the “quarterback” between clients, attorneys and tax professionals
    • What families should—and don’t necessarily need to—share about their finances
    • Why “fair” and “equal” aren’t always the same when passing down wealth
    • How working with clients’ children early can build financial literacy and stronger multigenerational relationships

With one of the largest generational wealth transfers underway, its never too early to get the next generation involved.

Traci also wrote a 3-part blog series on this topic. Read it here.

  • How Young Advisors Can Build Credibility
    Jul 23 2026

Building your own book of financial advisory clients is not easy especially when you're young.

How do you earn the trust of clients who may be twice your age?

In this episode, Brendan Ryan sits down with Kathleen Owings of West Built Financial to discuss how she built credibility early in her career through community leadership and public service. Rather than trying to convince people she was qualified, Kathleen focused on becoming involved in organizations she genuinely cared about. The credibility—and ultimately the business—followed.

    They discuss:

    • Why building credibility is one of the biggest challenges for young advisors
    • How community leadership can accelerate trust and authentic relationships
    • Why the best networking comes from genuine interests

They also cover other parts of Kathleen's journey including:

    • Lessons from military leadership that still apply to running an advisory firm
    • Growing from advisor to business owner through delegation and hiring

If you're looking for a more authentic way to grow your business, or build credibility in your community, this episode offers practical ideas.

  • Should You Go Independent? Ask Yourself This First.
    Jun 24 2026

    Thinking about going independent?

In this episode of Advisor Turntable, Brendan Ryan sits down with Tricia Brady, AssetMark business consultant and author of Dance to Independence, to discuss what advisors should know before making the leap.

    Tricia talks about:

    • Misconceptions about going independent
    • Why "the payout" is the wrong reason to make the move
    • Compliance and operational considerations
    • The mindset shift from advisor to business-owner needed to succeed
    • Mistakes advisors make during the first 12-18 months
    • The role of AI, marketing, and advisor branding

The conversation also explores another major trend shaping the industry: the historic transfer of wealth to women. Tricia explains why so many widows leave their financial advisor after a spouse passes away and shares practical ways advisors can build stronger relationships with both members of the household before that transition occurs.

Whether you're evaluating independence or looking to future-proof your practice, this episode offers actionable insights from someone who has helped advisors navigate both for decades.

  • The Wire Fraud Epidemic and How to Protect Your Firm
    May 21 2026

Wire fraud is no longer an obvious, easy-to-spot scam. The reality today is much more sophisticated.

In this episode of the Advisor Turntable Podcast, Brendan Ryan talks with Michael Brice, founder of BW Cyber, about the growing epidemic of wire fraud targeting financial firms, advisors, and even individual investors. In addition to working with advisors and asset managers through BW Cyber, Michael works with the FBI and other government agencies on cybersecurity investigations and has seen it all. He shares real-world examples ranging from compromised email threads to AI-generated voice cloning and deepfake video calls being used to manipulate wiring instructions.

One of the more reassuring takeaways from the conversation: most wire fraud is not really a technology problem — it’s a human one. And in many cases, relatively simple verification procedures and operational controls can dramatically reduce risk.

As AI continues making digital communication harder to trust, this is becoming an increasingly important operational issue for advisors and firms to understand. The cost of improving these processes is often insignificant compared to the financial and reputational damage one successful scam can cause.

  • Breaking the AUM Mold: Separating Planning From Investment
    Apr 22 2026

The traditional AUM model isn’t going away—but it may not be enough anymore.

In this episode, Brendan sits down with financial advisor and former colleague, Adam Wojtkowski of Copper Beach Wealth Management, to discuss his decision to separate financial planning from investment management into two distinct offerings—and why that shift may better align with how different generations value advice.

    They cover

    • the growing role of standalone planning,
    • why younger clients aren’t wired for the traditional model,
    • whether the 1% fee is truly future-proof,
    • how AI is starting to shape the investment process, and
    • why paid lead generation can still drive growth.

If you’re thinking about how to evolve your business model—or questioning whether the “default” approach still makes sense—this episode offers a practical perspective.

In this episode, Brendan Ryan talks with Ryan Alessio, National Consultant at AssetMark, who has worked with hundreds of advisors on succession planning. He shares what he’s learned about when to start, how to increase the value of your practice, and why finding the right successor is often the hardest part.

    They cover:

    • Why many advisors delay succession planning

  • Easy Ways Advisors Can Start Using AI Today
    Feb 19 2026

In this episode of the Advisor Turntable Podcast, Brendan Ryan sits down with financial advisor and long-time friend, Gerald Gugger, to discuss why AI isn’t replacing financial advisors, but is quickly becoming a competitive advantage for those who choose to use it.

They walk through how Gerald is already incorporating AI into his day-to-day practice — from simple prompts you can go use right now to an advisor-focused AI assistant integrated directly into his client workflow. The conversation focuses on practical adoption, time savings, and how AI can enhance the human side of advice rather than replace it.

He’s not selling anything — just sharing what he’s learned for advisors who want an easy place to start and don’t want to fall behind their competitors.

The Decathlon strategies utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in the decision-making process, introducing inherent risks. The AI’s lack of predictability, reliance on historical data, and sensitivity to market volatility may impact investment outcomes. Technology-related risks and the dynamic nature of market conditions further contribute to potential uncertainties. Ongoing monitoring and adjustments to the AI model are essential. Investors should recognize the limitations of AI, seek professional advice, and carefully assess their risk tolerance and financial situation before making investment decisions.
