American Franchise II: The Demand - 1963 is the second of three audio PSAs in American Franchise, a #YourVoteMatters archival-documentary public-service campaign.
On June 11, 1963, President John F. Kennedy addressed the nation on civil rights, including the right of every American to register and vote without interference or fear of reprisal. The spot reconnects that demand for equal citizenship to the continuing responsibility to participate in the electoral process.
American Franchise examines three moments in American voting history through archival audio, sound, music and editorial recontextualization: The Promise - 1944; The Demand - 1963; and The Act - 1965.
