Jeremy Hatch brings 25 years of successful experience in goal-oriented fundraising and arts management to the RSC team. He has provided ongoing strategic counsel to more than 50 RSC clients, including leading RSC engagements with the Detroit, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and St. Louis Orchestras, as well as Opera Omaha, The Cleveland Pops, Breckenridge Create and the New Harmony Project.

    Welcome back to Arts Admin Unleashed! We hope you all had a good summer, and are settling into fall peacefully. This week, we sat down with Doug Booher. Mr. Booher serves as Executive Director of University Events and IU Auditorium at Indiana University. Established in 2010, IU Event Services provides all event staff and management for major university events including IU Athletics events, as well as talent buying responsibilities for all university-owned venues. In his role for University Events, he offers leadership, creative and compliance services for all executive, advancement and ceremonial events on IU’s campuses. Together, IU Auditorium, Event Services, and University Events serve over one million guests each year. We got to speak with Mr. Booher about his perspective on positive work culture, how to curate positive experiences for everyone involved in the arts production process, and about the course he teaches for the MAAA program: Performing Arts Center Management!

    This episode is PART ONE of our two part episode highlighting the practicum experiences offered by the MAAA degree. In this episode, we sit down with Megan Starnes. Megan Starnes has been with the O’Neill School since 2008 and played a major role in growing and administering the Master of Arts in Arts Administration program. She has been in her current role within the Office of the Dean since 2016, where she is primarily responsible for enhancing the student experience at O’Neill. Starnes designs and contributes to initiatives in such areas as diversity, equity, and inclusion; analysis and updates to the school strategic plan; mental health; and all aspects of improving the professional and personal growth of the O’Neill community. She received her Master of Science in Applied Health Science degree from the IU School of Public Health, concentrating in human development and family studies.

    In this episode, we sit down with Professor Joanna Woronkowicz. Joanna Woronkowicz is a cultural economist who conducts research on labor, capital, and technological investments in arts and culture. She joined O’Neill in 2013 and prior to that was the senior research officer for the National Endowment for the Arts. Woronkowicz is co-founder and faculty director of the Center for Cultural Affairs and co-director of the Arts, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Lab. Her first book, Building Better Arts Facilities: Lessons from a U.S. National Study, was published by Routledge in 2015. Her forthcoming book, Being an Artist in America: How Artists Build Careers and What Society Can Do to Support Them will be published with Stanford University Press.

    In this episode, we sit down with Julia Driscoll. In addition to being the assistant director for the MAAA program, Julia is a "MAAAlumni" herself. She serves as the MAAA program's lead academic advisor and supports the MAAA program office's many initiatives in student engagement, recruitment, community-building, and other areas of student services in collaboration with the Master's Programs Office.

    Previously, Julia served in other roles at IU including as the Program Director for the Center for Cultural Affairs, a career advisor in the O'Neill School's Career Hub, and as the Program and Operations Coordinator for the IU Arts and Humanities Council. In addition to her Master's degree in Arts Administration, Julia has a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Texas Tech University. Outside of her work at IU, she volunteers with Bridges: Musical Arts Youth Organization, and plays violin with local Argentine tango band Tamango.
