Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
He doesn’t say ‘cheer up’. He doesn’t say here are some steps to take – he says ‘come to me’.
Thank you for your invitation Jesus. For your care, your love and for rolling your sleeves up to take these heavy burdens from my life. I come to you Jesus. I look to you. I trust you are who you say you are.
I trust you can do what you say you can do.
I walk away from my striving.
I walk away from my self-reliance.
I walk towards you. I walk into your caring, loving arms.
I let go of the burdens that are weighing me down. And as I come, I linger, I pause, I remain. I find rest in your presence.
Jesus continues his invitation… “Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Thank you for replacing my heavy yoke with your light yoke through the divine exchange on the cross.
Thank you that as I keep company with you, I learn to live freely and lightly. I trust you.
I linger.
I keep company with you. I find rest. I live freely and lightly with you.
Help me live each moment in your unforced rhythms of your grace I pray.
Thank you for giving me rest Amen
