I celebrate getting to Ep.7 of the podcast by reading and discussing several passages that highlight the various ways stories are meaningful to us. The passages are sourced from the following books. I read and discuss four passages from the Malazan Book of the Fallen - three from Toll the Hounds and one from The Crippled God. I discuss how I thought the scenes were various effective, evocative, and funny all while being extremely short :)

I read and discuss a passages from The Curse of The Mistwraith - the first book of The Wars of Light and Shadow series by Janny Wurts. The passage tells the story of an 18000 year old story. I also go into some rambling about info dumps and "lived-in" feeling worlds.

In this episode we go over an intense and momentous game of chess between Paul and Ailel in The Summer Tree - which is the first book of The Fionavar Tapestry trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay. I discuss why the scene resonated with me and how it very effectively lays the foundation for events to come later in the book and series.

I read and discuss four passages from Toll the Hounds - the Eighth book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen Series by Steven Erikson. Alternate chapters in Toll the Hounds follow an "accordion" structure of sorts where there is a poetic introduction to and conclusion of the events of the chapter. I go over 2 sets of examples of these introductory and concluding passages and admire the structure and writing in these passages.
