In this week’s study of Luke, Jesus prepares for a pivotal ministry decision by choosing twelve disciples to follow His model. The lessons we will learn challenges us to move beyond spiritual mediocrity and complacency toward the abundant, Spirit-filled life Christ intended.

We are starting our study of Luke 6 this morning and in our Scripture we will find Jesus infuriating the Pharisees because of what He and His disciples were doing on the Sabbath. It is very difficult to talk about the Sabbath in modern-day America, even here in Oklahoma City, the buckle of the Bible Belt. The difficulty lies in the fact that the Sabbath, which is from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday, or Sunday, the day when we Christians gather together for worship on the Lord’s Day, is just another day here in our country. It’s a day to get caught up on work, a day to attend little league sports events, take care of the endless list of things to get done around the house, and the list goes on and on and on. Over the past few decades it has become more and more common that more and more people have to work on Saturday or Sunday, or both. -Sermon from Pastor Mike

The Bible tells us that our God is full of compassion, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy. That alone is enough reason to give Him praise!This week, we will see Jesus spending time with people who, by religious standards, were considered "sketchy"—those who didn't follow the rules or were seen as a blight on the community. The way Jesus responds to them serves as a conviction to all of us, as we often struggle with putting religion before relationship.As we continue our study of Luke, we will learn that Grace is greater than Religion. We must always err on the side of grace as we follow Christ and build His kingdom here.

I've got six more words for you,"If You are willing, You can..." (Lk. 5:12)Those six words speak to the struggle we all have with trusting in God's power and understanding God's plans. Honestly, sometimes God's ways just don't make sense, and thankfully His will doesn't depend on my understanding. However, if we will trust Him , we'll see a miracle we never imagined possible.

Six of the most transformative words you can ever speak are, "...nevertheless at Your word I will..." (Lk. 5:5)

Sometimes God's ways just don't make sense, but if we will trust Him anyways, our lives will be changed forever.
