    Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, Dayna Lee-Márquez grew up surrounded by the bold Mexican-American flavors she describes as the cuisine of the Borderlands. After moving to Greenville, she began sharing those flavors through brewery pop-ups in 2019 before opening the doors to Comal 864 in 2021. Her distinctive approach to South Texas cuisine has earned national recognition, including a 2023 James Beard Award Semifinalist nod for Best Chef: Southeast, and in 2025, Comal 864 was named one of USA Today's Best Restaurants of the Year.
