• Going the Distance in Growing Lives with Tonya Guinn
    Jul 26 2023

The story keeps on brewing as The Trail Youth Coffee Home continues to grow their programs and the lives that they impact.

Tonya Guinn, Executive Director of Trail Youth Coffee Home shares what's brewing on the horizon for the teens, the tweens and all the great programming in between. Trail Youth was founded in 2014 on the trails in Issaquah Washington, when 3 caring moms took coffee, donuts, and soup to the at-risk teens living on the trails. They were serving more than a hot drink, they were serving kindness and compassion, they were letting the teens know that they cared, that they valued them, and they mattered.

In 2018 they were awarded a grant and makeover through Returning the Favor with Mike Rowe (Dirtiest Jobs), and he surprised these ladies with what is now the Trail Youth Coffee Home. A safe place for teens to get a free drink, hang out, and know that people really care, a place where there are no labels, just words of affirmation.

Trail Youth truly pours into the youth, from a free drink to barista training, mentoring, training programs for marketing, hosting their own podcast (Grounds of Love), AA for teens, activities such as art, poetry readings, D&D meet ups, and much much more. Check out their web site for all the details on how you can be involved, order coffee both personally or for your business, and pour into this amazing organization, www.trailyouth.com

  • Mike Flood Part 2 - Community, Commitment and Kindness
    May 23 2023

Join us as we continue the conversation with Mike Flood, on Community, Commitment and Kindness. More layers revealed, more insight given, more laughter and more doggy love for Aurelia!

Greeted with a firm handshake, Mike immediately turned his undivided attention to me. His quiet demeaner, his humility, the soft cadence of his words made me feel at home from the first time that I met him. Well, at least I think he was focused on me and not on his favorite guide dog. He waited somewhat patiently and finally asked permission to meet Aurelia. From the first time we met, I discovered so many amazing layers to this humble man.

A Seattle native, Mike attended Washington State University and later earned his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina. He owned and operated an agricultural flying service in Fort Scott, Kan., and served as a pilot in the Coast Guard flying C130s, Dassault Falcon jets, and H60 Jayhawk helicopters. Mike also managed Search and Rescue Operations in Alaska among many other levels of leadership. Mike may have retired as a Commander in 1996 after 20 years in the service but he continues to serve and honor those who are currently serving and the veterans that gave so much to our country. He serves on the boards of the King County Municipal League, Camp Patriot, and Be Kind Snoqualmie Valley. Mike also happens to work for my favorite football team and has served as the Vice President of Outreach and External Affairs for the Seahawks since 1997.

Mike has been awarded the Outstanding Service to Veterans from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, Person of the Year from the United Negro College Fund, and "I Care About Kids" award from Mentoring Works Washington.

Take some time to listen and get to know the person that I consider to be a great friend, he is dog approved and one of the most compassionate people I have met.

  • #BetheAnswer, Celebrating Life Each and Every Day with Larry Snyder Part 1
    May 2 2023

Meet Larry Snyder, Larry is an amazing friend and honestly one that I believe would literally give the shirt off of his back to one in need. An extraordinary man who genuinely cares about those he serves, and Larry literally serves thousands of people.

Growing up in a family full of sisters, it was those lessons taught to him by his family that have crafted him into the man he is today. Giving back is a life lesson that he accredits to his mom and his dad. Larry is a man of many hats, so whether building schools in another country, collecting socks through a drive-up window at Starbucks, inspiring others with a Ted Talk or writing books and blogs - Larry continues to serve with compassion and kindness. He loves to spend his time elevating others, which includes putting on another hat, a top hat which has become his signature when auctioneering to raise funds for organizations that he believes in. Larry will be the first to tell you that we can all make a difference, just #BetheAnswer!
