  • Hannah and Nemo Make Moving Mosaics That Move Lives
    Jan 6 2024

ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A QUIRKY COUPLE WHO BOTH WENT TO ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL…

After spending years as cad-monkeys and staring at spreadsheets, we realized we had been duped by our design educations. Feeling let down by the corporate world and lack of opportunities for creativity, we left to pursue our dream of living slow and tiny.

For a decade we lived in our camper van while traveling state to state on the art festival circuit. We met folks from all walks of life, and spent many a night in parking lots and back country roads. We developed our aluminum can moving mosaics into carefully handcrafted transformations representing our progressive values and desire for effortless earth stewardship.

We have poured our creative hearts into being authentic, engaging, and entertaining social media content creators working with @TikTokForGood, @BallAluminumCup, and @DrinkSpindrift to inspire people to view waste as a resource while reminding them to treat the planet and everyone on it with dignity and respect.

More than anything, we want everything we create, but especially our moving mosaics, to help you slow down, take a deep breath, and notice the little things in life, so that you will feel less distracted by the troubles of our world, and more inspired to treat yourself and the earth well.

  • Susan Mordigal Uses Foundational Art Skills to Explore Various Mediums
    Nov 4 2023

Susan cannot remember a time when she wasn’t creating. Art was her first language and is still her best form of expression. Her art education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia, and two years of illustration from The New York Botanical Garden, NYC.

Additionally, she received a Master of Social Work from the University of Cincinnati. This education allowed Susan to achieve one of her proudest accomplishments of directing an art program serving individuals living with disabilities and dementia. Part of this program was also mentoring and teaching art and social work students who were vital to their success.

After illustrating and creating graphic designs with traditional media and digitally for many years, Susan decided to get back to raw materials, branching into 3D using mixed media. She chose wine corks and other recyclables for many reasons. They are easy to obtain and an enjoyable challenge to work with, and she loves the idea of upcycling trash into beautiful art to keep material out of our landfills. There are countless things that inspire Susan, but one of the biggest influences on her work has been Zentangle. Since 2017 she has been practicing this meditative art form. The patterns inspired by Zentangle and from her own observations of nature and architecture have been vital inspirations in all media Susan creates with.

  • Visual Artist Bobbie Gray Is Redefining What We Consider to Be Waste through Her Work with Recycled Materials
    Oct 28 2023

Bobbie Gray is a multidisciplinary artist from New Zealand with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental consciousness. Her practice spans sculpture, moving image, painting, installation, and curation. Bobbie Graduated from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design in 2017 with a BFA, and since then has exhibited in galleries and festivals throughout New Zealand and abroad, with International exhibitions like Coventry Cathedral (UK) and The Medina of Tunis (Tunisia), Ukraine, and in Iran.

Bobbie’s practice revolves around the intricate relationship between humans and nature, with a particular emphasis on the impact of waste and consumption on our planet's delicate ecosystems. Bobbie is particularly drawn to working with found and collected cast-off materials, especially single-use water bottles, by constructing them into blooms and immersive light installations that evoke wonder for our planet's precious ecosystems. For her most recent and ambitious installation, Bobbie transformed over 15,000 plastic recyclables into Kowhai Blooms, bringing to life a central city laneway in her hometown of Tauranga NZ.

Bobbie founded an artist-run initiative Comet Project Space in 2017, evolving into a pop-up gallery fostering community activations. She is also a member of Re-Use Collective [Regarding Use], a group of women artists driven by concerns for the environment, who choose to work with found and collected cast-off materials to highlight problematic aspects of current modes of production and consumption.
