Dallas Stars number one goaltender Jake Oettinger was scratched from his scheduled preseason start last night against the Minnesota Wild with “lower body tightness” as a precautionary measure. Rémi Poirier stepped in and pitched a 24-save shutout, as the Stars beat the Wild 2-0 to remain unbeaten (3-0-0) in their 2026 exhibition schedule. On today’s DLLS Stars Podcast, Owen & Luds will go over the timeline of what transpired yesterday with Oettinger and what it means going forward with just over a week until the start of the 2026-27 regular season. 10 Dallas Stars players will make their 2026 preseason debuts tonight at American Airlines Center against the Minnesota Wild, including Jake Oettinger, Miro Heiskanen and captain Jamie Benn. Notably omitted from that group is Tyler Seguin, who has been a full on-ice participant in training camp, but still hasn’t played in a game since undergoing surgery in January to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. On today’s DLLS Stars Podcast, Owen, Sam & Luds will preview tonight’s game against the Wild and discuss Seguin’s current status as we are less than 10 days from the team’s season opener on October 2nd vs. St. Louis. Two games into the four-game 2026 preseason schedule and the Dallas Stars are nursing a few bumps and bruises. Matt Duchene has not participated in the first five days of on-ice work, Colin Blackwell picked up a lower body injury on Saturday in practice and then Cameron Hughes suffered an injury on his first shift of Monday’s preseason game against St. Louis. On today’s show, we will recap last night’s 2-1 win over the Blues and Sam will provide a live practice update from Comerica Center in Frisco. Also, this morning the Stars made their first cuts of training camp, trimming the roster by nine players, now down to 48. And of course, we have some NHL News & Notes to discuss.

The Dallas Stars announced this morning that they have signed 28-year-old forward Sam Steel to a four-year contract extension, worth $14.8 million ($3.7M AAV). A first round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2016, Steel joined the Stars in the summer of 2023 as a UFA after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Minnesota Wild. His first two seasons in Dallas were on one-year deals, before signing a two-year extension ahead of the 2025-26 season and now this new contract will kick in for the 2027-28 season and keep him in Dallas through the 2030-31 campaign. On today’s show, we will talk about Steel’s new deal, plus we will get into Saturday’s 2-1 preseason win over the St. Louis Blues, look ahead to tonight’s game in Dallas (also against the Blues), provide some injury updates to Matt Duchene and Colin Blackwell.
