    Padres beat Brewers 4-3 to force Game 4. Jake Cronenworth hit the go-ahead homer; Michael King closed out the win with the Padres without Mason Miller.


    BASKETBALL (WNBA)

    Atlanta’s Allisha Gray will miss Game 2 vs. New York with a left-hand injury suffered in Game 1. The Dream lead the semifinal series 1-0.


    FUTBOL INTERNATIONALE

    Spain rallied past Croatia 2-1, with Mikel Merino scoring twice, including the 89th-minute winner. Spain is unbeaten in 42 matches. Harry Kane scored twice as England beat Czechia 3-0; his 125th cap ties Peter Shilton for England’s record.


    TENNIS

    Novak Djokovic won his seventh China Open title after Alex de Minaur retired with a groin injury. Djokovic remains unbeaten at the tournament with 34 straight wins.


    Carlos Alcaraz won the Japan Open, beating Jiri Lehecka 7-6, 6-4 to defend his title in his second tournament after a 4½-month injury layoff.


    HOCKEY (NHL)

    No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna scored his first NHL goal as Toronto beat Nashville 5-4 in OT.


    Alexis Lafreniere scored a hat trick as the Rangers beat the Islanders 5-2, improving to 3-0 at home.


    Matthew Tkachuk’s third-period goal gave Florida a 2-1 win over Los Angeles, leaving the Kings winless. Brad Marchand left with a leg injury.


    FOOTBALL (NFL)

    Philadelphia’s running-back depth is thin: Tank Bigsby goes to IR after core-muscle surgery and Saquon Barkley is week-to-week with a hamstring injury. Will Shipley is the only healthy RB on the active roster.


    FOOTBALL (COLLEGE)

    NCAA Football

    Pittsburgh rallied from 14 points down to beat Virginia Tech 35-33 and improve to 5-0.


    Northwestern opened the new Ryan Field with a 34-13 rout of Penn State. Caleb Komolafe rushed for 188 yards as Northwestern improved to 3-1.


    Soccer

    Tyler Adams will succeed Tim Ream as captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team. Adams previously captained the team at the 2022 World Cup.


    NBA

    Miami will host “A Night in Vice City” on November 18, featuring Vice City-themed court and uniforms to coincide with the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. The Heat face Milwaukee, with the game airing on ESPN.

    Utah Mammoth opened the season with a 6-0 shutout of Chicago. Karel Vejmelka made 15 saves for his ninth NHL shutout, while Dylan Guenther scored twice.
