• Part 1: Unlearning Racial Inequity in the Workplace: The True State of DE&I
    May 5 2023

Part 1: In recent years, many companies have made declarations about being inclusive. In reality, few have followed through. Even then, good intentions and follow-through haven’t necessarily translated into real transformation and race equality in the workplace. Yet as the latest US census and many other data points show, reaching an increasingly diverse marketplace in the US is crucial to business success now and in the future.
In this episode, our hosts and guest dive straight into the conversation of workplace DE&I. We share personal experiences at work and the key differences we've experienced from a racial equity standpoint in the US compared to other places we've lived and worked. We imagine we have the power to single-handedly change business, work, and customer experiences from an inclusion standpoint and share a picture of that vision.

  • Undoing Cultural Appropriation, Part 2: What It Is, Why It's Bad & The Line Between Cultural Appreciation
    Mar 15 2023

Part two of: What is cultural appropriation? When does cultural influence/appreciation cross the line into appropriation? In this episode of Deeper Than Color, hosts Chris Gee, Ayat Shukairy, and Karen Amundson grappled with this topic as they don't exactly agree with one another 100% of the time. In addition to sharing their viewpoint on what cultural appropriation is, our hosts and guests discuss why it's so problematic, who gets to decide when there is cultural appropriation, and which elements, if any, of our culture should we celebrate going mainstream.
