Season 11 Episode 3: Enter Shikari deepdive

Enter Shikari have announced the sad, but understandable, news that the band will be going ‘dormant’ at the end of 2027.

As big fans of the band since those very early days of ‘Mothership’ and ‘Sorry You’re Not a Winner’, Matt and James felt it was as good a time as any to do a deep dive into this incredible band.

We track our way through the years, reminiscing about shows and albums, picking out favourite songs and remembering (badly) some stories of following the band.

Join us for this trip down memory lane.

Season 11 Episode 2: This episode contradicts everything and solves nothing (Feat. Fugazi, Raye, Father of Peace and more)

Matt and James are back with an episode of thoughts, opinions and nonsense.

We discuss the many issues around bands trying to make money, venues trying to make money, merchandise, touring and everything else. We probably have more questions than answers, but it makes for an interesting chat.

We look into whether or not success online translates to tickets sales.

Matt chats through his experience at All Points East and we wonder what expectations people have at festivals and if they are realistic or not.

Lots of thought provoking stuff, and a lot of laughs as always.

Season 11 Episode 1: Emo Dad talks to unpeople

Matt and James are BACK, and we start season 11 with a bang, as we speak to the lovely Em and Jake from THE hottest UK band right now, unpeople.

unpeople gained high praise from the likes of Kerrang! Magazine (‘A phenomenon waiting to happen’) and Distorted Sound (‘arena-worthy hooks… hellacious screams… gloriously heavy guitars’). unpeople have been nominated for two Heavy Music Awards in 2025 - Best Breakthrough Live Artist and Best UK Breakthrough Artist, having also received a nomination in 2024.

unpeople release their incredible new album, we are unpeople, on 9 October and are on the road this (and next) year with the likes of Don Broco, Royal Blood and their own headline tour.

We LOVE this band so it was a pleasure to chat all about the new album, their amazing live shows, their transition from previous band, Press to Meco, and so much more.

We hope you enjoy.

Season 10 Episode 13: 2000 Trees Festival review (Feat. Anthony Green, I Am The Avalanche, Arcane Roots and more)

Matt and James went to 2000 Trees and…SPOILER ALERT…had a wonderful time.

Join us as we discuss our thoughts on the festival, from the perspective of going with mates and also going with a child! We chat about all the amazing bands we saw, including the likes of I Am The Avalanche, Carsick, Arcane Roots, Thistle, Free Throw, Glassjaw, Anthony Green, Higher Power and many many more, including some bands who were new to us and got us excited.

Of course we talk about various LOGISTICS and boring stuff which we like to obsess over, like the layout of the festival, how many water taps there were and the fact they don’t play music over the speakers between bands… controversial move or power play? These things need to be discussed at length and no other podcast will do it!

We hope you enjoy, were you there? Who were your favourite bands?

Season 10 Episode 12: 2000 Trees Festival preview (Feat. Mouth Culture, Truck Violence, Native James and more)

Matt and James are off to 2000 Trees and this is our preview!

We are super excited to get stuck into this wonderful festival, which we are ashamed to say that we have never attended before, but always looked on from afar with jealousy and admiration.

We talk you through the unbelievable bill, researching some of the smaller bands rather than focusing purely on the bands we all know. James picks out his favourite funny band names and Matt starts stressing about logistics (no surprise!).

Then we get totally distracted by the food van offering!

Will we see you at 2000 Trees?

Season 10 Episode 11: Slam Dunk Festival review (Feat. Unpeople, Dashboard Confessional, ‘A’ and more)

Matt went to Slam Dunk and have a lovely time! Want to hear his thoughts, of course you do!

Join us and we discuss the day and the many many bands who were playing in a boiling hot field! Matt tells all about his day, a disastrous Jelly Babies incident, the next big band that everyone needs to know, his opinion on Adam and Taking Back Sunday, swarms of wasps, dehydrated goths, the curiosity that is Sublime, Knocked Loose and so much more.

Have a listen and let us know if you agree or not?

Season 10 Episode 10: Slam Dunk Festival preview (Feat. Static Dress, Taking Back Sunday, Goldfinger and more)

Matt and James sit down to discuss this year’s exciting edition of the mighty Slam Dunk Festival. Matt will be attending once again, so we thought we should chat about two of our favourite things, emo bands and logistics!

We work our way through the set times (the correct one after James started with the 2024 version in front of him) and discuss who Matt should see and why. We debate the merits of seeing older bands that Matt has seen a million times before, rather than new bands. We work out tactics for seeing as many bands as possible, without being so exhausted that Matt just goes home.

Should he see TBS? Dance to Good Charlotte or mosh to Knocked Loose? Pay attention to the hype around President? Or just sunbathe? We cover it all and more.

Going to Slam Dunk? Drop us a message on instagram.

Season 10 Episode 9: Time is running out (Feat. Like Roses, Future Teens, Angine de Poitrine and more)

As Matt Bellamy once said, time is running out. We’re backs against the wall at Emo Dad HQ so we thought we’d do a quick ep to tie the season up and give us a little bit of breathing space.

We’re against the clock so are an effort to stay FOCUSED and to the point, which basically means that Matt just hammers James with odd questions.

We discuss some new bands which James is enjoying, the problem with having a new iPhone, the best way to press buttons, everyone’s favourite new band, Angine de Poitrine and so much more.

It’s a speedy one, so good luck trying to keep up, we’ll be back before you know it with more nonsense and cool bands.
