The ClassClinPsych Podcast aims to shine a light on the role of class in clinical psychology. In these episodes, we will be talking to various people in the psychological professions and other allied fields to learn how class has shaped them personally and professionally. We hope these conversations give voice, provoke thought, and promote change in relation to class in clinical psychology.
Matthew talks about his social identities of being a brown working class man from Stoke-on-Trent. He offers reflections on the 5 P's formulation, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), and the Social Graces Model. Matthew also talks about his route into clinical psychology, and reflects on areas of privileges, and areas of disadvantages. He also shared his research on mental health professionals responses to social detriments in mental health services. At the time of this recording, Matthew was working as a Clinical Psychologist after training on the Liverpool DClin programme.
Any views or opinions discussed in the episodes belong solely to the person expressing them. The podcast conversations are not intended to malign any religion, ethnic group, club, organisation, company, or individual. We aim to remain receptive to feedback that indicates this is not the case and proactively address any concerns raised. Co-hosted by Dr Clarabella Gray (Clinical Psychologist), and Kate Rushby-Jones (Trainee Clinical Psychologist). Edited and produced by Dr Katie Place (Clinical Psychologist). The introduction was edited by Nathan Rushby-Jones, with special thanks to Gary Hume for the musical contribution.
