What really happened behind the public image of “Jimmy in Philly”? In this true crime story, life-insurance salesman and social media personality James Adams is brutally murdered with an axe in Media, Pennsylvania, leading detectives into a shocking investigation involving family secrets, financial exploitation, hidden relationships, drug use, and decades of family conflict. James’s daughter Yallie Adams becomes linked to a secret relationship with his 78-year-old stepmother, Colette Adams, while former social-media friends Peter Roskins, Alice Monroe, and LaDavid Carter reveal disturbing claims about James’s behavior behind the camera. Investigators eventually identify Colette as the killer, but during her murder trial she makes a shocking claim that James had allegedly abused her for decades and that she killed him in self-defense. The case also brings renewed attention to the mysterious 1978 death of James’s father. With murder, family secrets, courtroom drama, shocking twists, hidden relationships, and a controversial self-defense claim, this episode of True Crime Case Files explores the dark story behind a social media hero and the shocking events that ended in murder.
