• Episode 28 - The Enneagram and You!
    Apr 7 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 28! Today, I interviewed Chelsie Engle of Elite Enneagram Coaching. She approached me to preach the good word of the Enneagram. Though I had never heard of it despite being in social work and therapy circles, I was drawn in by her infectious energy. She also offered to complete an Enneagram typing session free of charge which, of course, sweetened the deal.

After participating in that session, I was impressed by the complex and exhaustive information that can be learned from completing an Enneagram assessment. Please see her links below to learn more about the Enneagram and how you can participate in both free and paid assessments!

  • Episode 26 - What is Motivation?
    Feb 27 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 26! Today, I have a question – What is motivation? Better yet, what motivates you? Are you someone who enjoys getting the job done for the sake of completion? Or are you someone who enjoys the recognition of others for a job well done? Both of those things can be motivating, but differently for different people… and it’s important you know which one your brain prefers.

Come along with us as we talk about what motivation is and the two main types: intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

**Dad Jokes, of course, are included.**

  • Episode 25 - Practicing Gratitude
    Feb 14 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 25! Today, I want to talk about how to practice being grateful and how this can help turn a troubled mind toward a more positive light. We often get bogged down in the day-to-day stress without taking time or inventory of the things that may be going our way. To play on a line from the Paw Patrol – “No stress is too big, and no gratefulness too small.” We’ll discuss a couple of techniques that you can try in just a few minutes a day that can train your brain to find the rainbows in the rain.

**Dad Jokes, of course, are included.**

  • Episode 24 - Voice Act Your Age!
    Feb 1 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 24! Today, I want to share with you my interview with co-creator Chris Burnside and voice talent Stephen Gogol, and Jordan Lopez from Dayton Writer’s Movement’s The Hidden People audio drama. I have to be honest that this interview almost brought me to tears because there is nothing more fun than sitting around with a bunch of hilarious, creative people. This interview is, as always, included in its entirety and we let the clock run on entertainment. It is a long one and I won’t fault anyone for taking this one in chunks, but if you need to smile, this is the one. Stick around after the interview for some Dad Jokes of the Week. If your podcast player can see chapters, I’ll put some markers in so that you can navigate around the longer episode. Enjoy!

For next week, I am going to talk a little about self-love, no not that kind, and gratitude. Two things that can help us reframe out thoughts and give us a mood boost that may be the kick in the pants we need to get finding our new destiny! If you have some thoughts about this, email, tweet, or come to the website at www.findingweird.com and click on the microphone in the bottom right corner to leave me a voicemail message! I may even feature your audio in the next episode!

  • Episode 23 - Jump into Skydiving
    Jan 24 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 23! Today, I want to share with you my interview with Dr. Kevin Payne, social psychologist, data scientist, author, teacher, and skydiver who took charge of his own happiness after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He decided to get back to a hobby that brought him joy and now has over 600 jumps in 3 years. He is an extremely knowledgeable person and very down to earth… ha!

For next week, I was able to achieve some firsts for the podcast. We have our first multi-paneled interview as I sit down with co-creator Chris Burnside and voice talent Stephen Gogol, and Jordan Lopez from Dayton Writer’s Movement’s The Hidden People audio drama. I listen to their show regularly and was super excited to sit down with them. I’ll admit that it is going to be a long one because that’s what happens when you get theatre people and writers into a space and let the jokes fly. If you need shenanigans in your life to cheer you up, make sure to visit again next week!

  • Episode 22 - Do Be a Drag... Queen!
    Jan 17 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 22! Today, I want to share my interview with Lala Luzious, The Snack of the Twin Cities, local drag performer, host of the Snack Size podcast, journalist for the Twin Cities Gay Scene magazine, makeup artist, and show host of “Power” at the Black Hart of Saint Paul. She is also releasing her own book of poetry, "A Loitering Heart" in February and will be featured in a new web series, “It’s Not You” coming out this year.

I’ll be honest, I am exhausted from just thinking about all the work she does on a weekly basis. A wonderful guest with an even more wonderful soul and work ethic who champions the idea that stepping outside of ourselves once in a while is a Wonderfully Weird Way to Be.

Next week, we will be sitting down with social psychologist, entrepreneur, author, podcast host, speaker, teacher, and frequent guest panelist Dr. Kevin Payne to talk about how he jumps out of a perfectly functional airplane to take control of his body back from his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. We discuss how to create and nurture a life worth living and I think he may have convinced me to jump.

  • Episode 21 - Stinkin' Thinkin' Errors
    Jan 10 2022

    Show Notes:

Welcome back for Episode 21! Today, I want to talk a little bit about thinking errors or cognitive distortions and the impact they can have on our day-to-day experience of the world. I took a list from the internet of 16 common thinking errors and we’ll explore what they entail. I will bet that you will recognize some of the common barriers to a more positive mindset. Stay tuned… this might be my version of Pokémon as I catch them all!

Next week, we will be sitting down with the Queen of the Twin Cities herself Lala Luzious as we talk about dressing and performing drag, her new book of poetry, and how getting outside of yourself can be very liberating and great for your mental health.
