The ClassClinPsych Podcast aims to shine a light on the role of class in clinical psychology. In these episodes, we will be talking to various people in the psychological professions and other allied walks of life to learn about how class has shaped them personally and professionally. We hope these conversations give voice, provoke thought, and promote change in relation to class in clinical psychology.
Ruth talks about their working class upbringing, being queer, social anxiety, and how this shaped their experience in education and work. Ruth discusses their career in retail, which ultimately led to pursuing a career in clinical psychology at 30, whilst balancing family life. There is a clear message that being working class is a strength when pursuing this career. At the time of this recording, Ruth was a first year trainee clinical psychologist.
Any views or opinions discussed in the episodes belong solely to the person expressing them.
