In 1901, Elisa Sánchez Loriga and Marcela Gracia Ibeas pulled off one of the most daring acts of love in LGBTQ+ history. Elisa assumed a male identity, was baptized under a new name, and married Marcela in a Catholic church. When the truth came to light, the newlyweds became the target of a nationwide manhunt.

Their story is one of courage, sacrifice, and resilience—and more than a century later, their marriage has never been annulled by the Catholic Church.
