    In episode 323 of the Glass and Out Podcast, we're joined by Head Coach of the York University Women's program, Dan Church.

    Back in November, he joined us for Hockey Calgary's leadership day and presented on Shared Leadership, specifically how you can build stronger teams through coach-athlete collaboration. Stay tuned for that video coming later this season on The Coaches Site.

    Church has led the program at York since 2004. His career spans both university and international hockey. He has represented Hockey Canada in multiple leadership roles, including Head Coach of the Canadian National Women's Team, where he led the program to a gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship.

    Church places an emphasis on culture, long-term athlete development, and values-driven leadership, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches in Canadian women's hockey.

    Listen as he shares why coaches need to build better leaders, how to manage a players stress and exhaustion, and why the coach-player relationship needs to be collaborative.

  • Sports Scientist Job Fransen: Science of skill acquisition, competence vs confidence training and trusting your intuition

    In episode 322 of the Glass and Out Podcast, we welcome Senior Lecturer at Charles Sturt University Job Fransen.

    Fransen is also the founder and managing director of SkillACQ, a company that provides skill acquisition support services to high performance sporting organizations, from education and one-on-one mentoring of coaches, specifically in how they can create environments that best support skill acquisition.

    He studies how team sports athletes develop, acquire and perform complex motor skills. He's worked with teams across all sports, leagues and countries, including the recent NBA Champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

  • Charlottetown Islanders Head Coach Jim Hulton: Improving situational awareness, in-game adjustments and people before players

    In episode 321 of the Glass and Out Podcast, Head Coach of the Charlottetown Islanders, Jim Hulton, stops by to chat.

    Currently in his 11th season as the organization's Head Coach and General Manager, Hulton has enjoyed an incredible career that spans over 30 years. During his tenure with the Islanders, he has been named QMJHL General Manager of the Year, QMJHL Coach of the Year twice and CHL Coach of the Year.

    Prior to landing in PEI, he spent time as the Head Coach of three OHL franchises, the Mississauga Ice Dogs, Bellville Bulls and Kingston Frontenacs. He then spent three seasons with friend Pete DeBoer's staff with the Florida Panthers as they cut their teeth in the NHL.

    Internationally, Hulton represented Canada on several occasions, including being an Assistant Coach with the 2005 World Junior Team, who captured Gold in North Dakota and are considered by many to be the most impressive collection of talent ever assembled at the tournament.

    Listen as he shares how to improve a player's ability to think the game, his approach to making in-game adjustments, and the power of asking questions.
