What happens when you still believe in the mission, but you begin questioning the system responsible for carrying it out?

Sometimes, the work we once felt deeply connected to becomes a source of frustration, exhaustion, and internal conflict, not because we’ve stopped caring, but because we’ve started recognizing the contradictions between what an institution says it values and how it actually operates.

In this episode of Grow Through It, Ina Camille draws from her experiences in education, leadership, community mental health, and coaching to explore the emotional and psychological toll of navigating systems that don’t always align with our personal values.

We’ll unpack values incongruence, cognitive dissonance, and moral distress, examine why well-intentioned people sometimes participate in harmful organizational practices, and explore how institutional expectations can gradually lead us to compromise parts of ourselves.

Through a trauma-conscious and systems-aware lens, we’ll also consider what it means to advocate for change, recognize the limits of our influence, and make decisions rooted in integrity rather than obligation.

Because sometimes growth isn’t about learning how to fit into the system. It’s about recognizing when fitting in requires too much of you.

Tune in for reflection, psychoeducation, and this week’s Grow Through It / Walk Through It exercise: The Values Alignment Check.

Who Did You Have to Become When You Weren’t Protected?

When you couldn’t count on someone stepping in, what did you learn to become? Maybe you became the one with a backup plan, the one who reads the room, or the one who handles everything herself.

In this episode of Grow Through It, Ina Camille explores how self-protection can shape our identities long after the circumstances that taught us to rely on it. She also looks beyond individual relationships to ask how families, workplaces, schools, and larger systems teach us who can expect support, and who is expected to manage alone.

This conversation is an invitation to appreciate the strengths you developed, notice where they may be costing you, and ask what protection could look like in your life now.

We’re constantly told: don’t quit, keep going, stay consistent. But how do you know when perseverance is actually helping you grow, and when it’s keeping you attached to something that no longer works?

In this episode of Grow Through It, Ina explores the complicated space between persistence and pivoting. We unpack why it can be so difficult to change direction, from sunk costs and identity investment to fear of failure and the pressure of having pursued a goal publicly.

And through this season’s systems lens, we zoom out even further: Before deciding that you’re failing, have you examined the conditions you’re trying to succeed in?

In this week’s Grow Through It / Walk Through It, we’ll use five questions—Goal. Strategy. Environment. System. Time.—to help you decide whether your next move is to persist, adjust, relocate, advocate, or release.

Because pivoting isn’t necessarily giving up. Sometimes it’s what happens when we stop being loyal to the path and become loyal to the purpose.
