  • The Last Responders - Death Care Professionals in Emergency Management
    Feb 13 2026

Want to learn more about Indigenous Emergency Management? You’ve come to the right place. We know what a first responder is. When an emergency or disaster strikes whether it’s a hurricane, earthquake, mass‑casualty incident, or pandemic the first responders that come to mind are police, fire, emergency medical services (EMS), and humanitarian aid workers.

Yet, once lives are saved and injuries are treated, another group is called to the scene: death‑care professionals (mortuary directors, funeral home staff, embalmers, crematory operators, and related specialists). In emergency management terminology, they are often called the “last‑responders.” Find us on Patreon to connect with other Indigenous Emergency Management professionals and get exclusive content and resources: https://www.patreon.com/c/Hazardscape?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan&utm_content=copyLinkFollow us on Facebook to be in the know about upcoming posts and events: https://www.facebook.com/people/Hazardscape/61565197797574/ Follow us on TikTok for a little bit of everything: https://www.tiktok.com/@hazardscape_manag?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Like, share, and subscribe for more!

  • First Nations and Alberta Independence
    Jan 20 2026

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 8 Territory submitted an affidavit to the Alberta courts regarding the Alberta Citizen Initiative Act, referendum petition, and foreign interference risks and impacts to First Nations.

What we like about this is the document has a very high focus on risks and impacts which is what we need to discuss as opposed to just calling out the types of policies involved.

The Nation had this written up through Orlagh O'Kelly at O'Kelly Law and Wesley Wark.
