About this listen
The U.S. Civil Rights Trail Podcast is collaborating with a podcast called History Daily, which tells the true stories of people and events that shaped our world. In this episode, we’re going to learn the back story of President Abraham Lincoln’s most famous speech — the Gettysburg Address. What’s interesting and relevant for us is that some legal scholars believe that the speech is part of the “origin story” of Civil Rights language. They say that it redefined what the United States is for—liberty and equality for all. And later, Civil Rights activists and leaders also used language like that to demand actual civil rights.
