  • Forgiveness After Loss: Letting Go of Anger, Guilt, and Regret
    Nov 7 2026

What happens when someone we love dies and we're left carrying unresolved anger, hurt, guilt, or regret?

Grief isn't always about losing someone with whom we had a loving, peaceful relationship. Sometimes the people we lose have also caused us pain. Sometimes there were words left unspoken, apologies never offered, and wounds that never had the chance to heal.

In Episode 17 of Hope After Loss, Marilyn Burns, M.S., L.P.C.C., explores one of the most complicated parts of grieving: forgiveness.

Drawing from personal experiences and nearly five decades as a mental health counselor, Marilyn discusses why forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting, excusing hurtful behavior, or pretending the past didn't happen.

We'll explore how unresolved emotions can complicate grief, why forgiving ourselves can be just as important as forgiving others, and how we can begin releasing resentment while still honoring our experiences.

Forgiveness is not something we can force, and healing doesn't always require reconciliation. Sometimes it simply begins with giving ourselves permission to find peace.

Because letting go of the pain doesn't mean letting go of the love.

Join Marilyn for another heartfelt conversation about grief, healing, and finding hope after loss.

  • The Empty Leash, Part Two: When Their Pawprints Remain on Our Hearts
    Oct 25 2026

Losing a beloved pet can leave an emptiness that words cannot describe. But what happens when we still hear their footsteps, dream about them, or feel their presence long after they've gone?

In Part Two of "The Empty Leash," Marilyn Burns, M.S., L.P.C.C., explores the deeper psychological and spiritual dimensions of pet loss.

Why do we sometimes grieve our pets more intensely than people? Why can losing an animal awaken grief from earlier losses? And what do we make of those mysterious moments when we think we hear a familiar bark, the squeak of a favorite toy, or the sound of little paws crossing the floor?

Through compassionate insights into attachment, memory, guilt, and the grieving brain, Marilyn reminds us that there is no timetable for grief and no need to apologize for loving an animal so deeply.

Whether you find comfort in psychology, spirituality, or simply the memories you cherish, this episode offers understanding, reassurance, and hope.

The leash may be empty. The favorite chair may be quiet. But the love remains.
