  • The Power in a Shower: How BE HEARD is Ending Homelessness One Shower at a Time with Evan Dougood
    Apr 27 2026

How long could you go without a shower? A week? Three months? For thousands of people experiencing homelessness and hygiene insecurity across Oklahoma, it's not a hypothetical - it's everyday life. And the impact goes far deeper than physical hygiene. Without consistent access to a shower, people lose confidence, dignity, and the sense that they matter to the world around them.

In this episode of Humankindness at Work, you'll meet Evan Dougood, founder of the Be Heard Movement, a unique mobile outreach organization serving people experiencing homelessness and hygiene insecurity in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Evan's story includes couch-surfing and navigating the kind of instability that most teenagers never face. While playing college basketball in Pennsylvania, his father fell ill in Tulsa, and Evan left everything behind. What he found there changed the course of his life.

Be Heard started with a camera and Evan’s desire to tell the stories of Tulsa’s homeless youth. It has become a story of empathetic ingenuity at its finest.

Be Heard brings shower and laundry trailers, a clothing trailer and more directly to those who need it.

    In this conversation, you'll hear:

    • Why hygiene access is a human dignity issue

    • How Be Heard serves those experiencing homelessness and hygiene insecurity

    • The partnership model that brings together churches, city government, and businesses

    • The world's first virtual volunteer vending machine

    • What it looks like to truly see and honor your neighbor

This episode will challenge the way you think about homelessness, hygiene, and what it means to be a good neighbor.

  • Flashfood: A Solution to Food Waste and Food Insecurity with Esther Cohn
    Apr 13 2026

Did you know 40% of all the food we produce in North America gets thrown away, while 1 in 7 people face food insecurity in the United States?

In this episode of the Humankindness at Work Podcast, you'll meet Esther Cohn, VP of Communications at Flashfood, who is quietly changing the way we think about groceries, dignity, and community through a single app.

Flashfood partners with grocery stores to discount fresh, surplus food before it goes to waste. Shoppers get great deals on the items they already buy, and grocers reduce their environmental footprint. Everyone wins.

Since 2020, grocery prices have risen nearly 30%. In the US, 1 in 7 people face food insecurity. And yet, $370 billion in edible food is thrown away in North America every year. FlashFood is one creative solution working to change that.

If you've ever wanted to do something about hunger or food waste but didn't know where to start, this episode is for you.

  • From Chicken Wings to Clean Water: How Saying Yes Changes Everything with Chris Turney
    Mar 30 2026

What do chicken wings, a Kansas City attorney, and clean water have in common?

More than you'd ever guess. 🐔💧

In this episode of the Humankindness at Work podcast, host Jennifer Clark sits down with Chris Turney — litigation attorney and founder of Wings for Water, a nonprofit chicken wing competition that is 10 times larger than the current world record holder. Every vote cast at the event goes 100% to clean water projects around the world.

Chris shares the unlikely story of how a church silent auction, a Royals game, and one boastful friend sparked a mission that has now funded clean water filtration systems in villages across the globe.

This is a conversation about community, purpose, saying yes to weird ideas, and discovering the "hidden skill" you didn't know you had. Whether you're a nonprofit leader, a small business owner, or someone who simply wants to make a difference where you live — this episode will inspire you to take the first step.
