About this listen

From the dark waters of Lake Superior, Luna brings you tales of the Great Lakes Black — a collection of standalone stories set on and around the vast inland seas of North America. Each episode pulls you into the icy grip of a different maritime horror: ghost ships that sail against the wind, lighthouses that broadcast signals from nowhere, lake creatures that surface only when the fog rolls in, and the drowned towns that lie silent beneath the waves. These are not jump-scare stories; they are slow, deliberate descents into dread, narrated in Luna's intimate, hushed register as if she's telling them to you alone on the deck of a rusting freighter. Whether it's a ship's crew that vanishes one by one, a fisherman who hauls up something that should have stayed on the bottom, or a lighthouse keeper who loses his mind to the isolation, every story is anchored in the cold, relentless presence of the Great Lakes themselves. The unifying thread is the water — black, deep, and hungrier than any ocean. Each episode is a self-contained horror, a complete voyage into the dark. Luna invites you to listen with the lights low and the wind outside your window. The lake is waiting.

  • The Bell That Rings on the Bottom — Fexingo Horror
    May 5 2026
July 1987, the Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Luna's cousin Danny works summer deckhand on the freighter Arthur M. Anderson. At 2:14 AM, the ship's bell rings three times—a precise, deliberate toll—though the bell is lashed to its bracket with a steel pin and the watchman is alone at the opposite end of the boat deck. Danny checks the bell. No one. He re-pins it. It rings again at 2:19. The pattern continues, always three strikes, always exactly five minutes apart, until the watchman radios down to ask if Danny is pranking him. The crew's engineer notices the bell is vibrating as though struck from below—from inside the water. The Anderson is in a lock chamber, sitting on a shallow sill over the bedrock of the St. Marys River. By 3 AM, the strikes have shifted the pin so many times that the bell's bracket is grooved. Danny stays on watch alone, not afraid, but listening. He remembers what old deckhands told him: that the water here is not deep, but it is heavy. That the lake does not drown you—it holds you in place. He thinks about the 1970 sinking of the Daniel J. Morrell, which went down in Lake Huron with its bell still clanging on the buoy line. He thinks about the 29 men who went down with the Edmund Fitzgerald just twelve years before. No bell on the Fitzgerald was ever recovered. Danny stands at the rail and stares at the dark water, and he knows—not guesses, knows—that the bell is not ringing to signal the ship. It is ringing to be answered. He does not answer. He walks away at sunrise. But the next night, a hundred miles out on Superior, he hears it again, faint, from the waterline. And he knows that wherever the Anderson goes, the ringing will follow. Not the bell—just the sound. A memory of metal. A question held in the current.

  • The Night the Lighthouse Died at Whitefish Point — Fexingo Horror
    May 4 2026
It is late October 1987 on the eastern edge of Lake Superior. The Whitefish Point Lighthouse has guided ships past the graveyard of the Great Lakes for over a century. But that autumn, something changed. The new keeper, a man named Harlan Finch, arrived alone and refused all company. Luna's uncle, a retired fisherman, told her stories over coffee at the diner in Paradise, Michigan—of lights seen where no light should be, of ships drifting without crew, of a fog that smelled of wet iron and old salt. She drove up one night to see for herself. The lighthouse was dark. The beam never swept. But something else moved inside the tower—something that had been waiting for the keeper to stop looking out, and start looking down. This is a story about what silence sounds like when it has weight. About the last night a beacon ever burned on that point, and the man who chose to keep the dark company.

  • The Last Ferry to Copper Harbor — Fexingo Horror
    May 3 2026
August 1998. Luna rides the night ferry across the Keweenaw Waterway to Copper Harbor, a town that vanishes from the map each winter. She is looking for a woman named Edith who vanished from a moored boat ten years ago, leaving a single cassette tape behind. The tape plays the sound of Lake Superior breathing—not water, but something deeper. Luna finds the boat still at its slip, the tape still in the deck, and hears what Edith heard: a low, repeating pulse from the bottom of the lake. Not a heartbeat. The ferry captain says nothing. The lighthouse beam passes. And then the ferry arrives, and Luna gets off, and she does not look back at the water. She can still feel that pulse in her teeth.
