  • Breaking Kayfabe #08 | Terry Brunk
    May 16 2026

Breaking Kayfabe is the wrestling world’s forum for the stars of the ring to unveil themselves. They emerge from under their characters and we see the human beings that lived beneath what was on television for years. Some tried harder than others to protect the manufactured personas, and possibly none lived their gimmick more than Terry Brunk when he became Sabu.Join Sean Oliver as he peels away the layers of Brunk and we meet the man with a historic wrestling family legacy, and a man living with the pain of being one of wrestling’s most death-defying athletes. Here is a complex man, wrapped in the pride he has for what he’s done, the pain for things he’s done, and the realization that the end is near. This is as real as it gets, guys…Breaking Kayfabe with the man you knew as Sabu, but will now never forget, as Terry.0:00 Breaking Kayfabe #08 | Terry Brunk00:45 Introduction and Guest Arrival01:14 Funny Story About Terry Funk's Roast02:19 Discussing Career and Recognition03:59 Experience with WWE and Self-Reflection05:30 Physical Condition and Wrestling Injuries06:09 Thoughts on Dying in the Ring06:59 Wrestling Career Longevity10:22 Wrestling Influences and Career Recognition10:41 Wrestling Injuries and Hospital Experiences12:14 Childhood and Family Background15:45 Wrestling Training and Early Career31:02 Drug Use and Wrestling34:20 Extreme Rising Incident and Reflection41:17 Comparing Wrestling Promoters42:20 Reflections on Business Acumen and Passion in Wrestling42:40 Discussion on Todd's Role and Financial Management in ECW43:38 Insights on Vince's Perception of Sabu44:14 Experiences with Bischoff and WCW45:05 Thoughts on ECW's Place in the Hall of Fame45:47 Views on WWE's Hall of Fame46:42 Willingness to Join WWE's Hall of Fame48:01 Opinions on Other Wrestlers and Personalities49:59 Reflections on Marriage and Personal Life52:38 Memories of Mother and Family54:21 Personal Interests and Preferences01:05:58 Experiences with Rehab and Substance Abuse01:14:41 Final Thoughts and Reflections

  • Guest Booker #12 | Al Snow
    May 15 2026

Al Snow booked for OVW, and today holds a spot on TNA's creative team. Snow was also a featured wrestler during WWE's white-hot "Attitude Era," where TV ratings were hitting the stratosphere in a way they have never seen again. So it would seem that he'd be someone that would have a lot to say about the paltry results that pro wrestling garners in viewership these days. The critically acclaimed DVD series profiles wrestling's most creative minds -- its bookers and decision makers -- and Al Snow's episode covers the style and decisions that made that "Attitude Era" so successful. Naturally the questions are posed against today's backdrop of one major federation going "PG" and living in a major drop-off from "Attitude" numbers, and the other major federation firing all of its arsenal at once and returning ratings in the 1s. Different time, baby. And Al Snow centers his discussion on "Guest Booker" along those lines. The compare/contrast with today's anemic and largely dispassionate following lives in the heart of realism. And perceived reality. And the outrageous characters being closer to the actual star than not. Sounds like reality-tv. Snow feels that's where wrestling hit its groove, even before the reality craze. And they've abandoned it.00:00 Introduction to Guest Booker01:11 Early Awareness of Booking02:08 Learning the Ropes04:36 Booking Philosophy and Practices06:30 Challenges in Modern Wrestling08:06 The Role of a Booker11:25 Bad Bookers and Their Traits19:05 First Booking Job34:12 Training and Protecting the Business38:34 Tough Enough and Its Impact41:58 Understanding Wrestling's Realism42:21 The Role of a Wrestling Agent43:09 The Illusion of Competition44:26 The Evolution of Wrestling Storytelling48:35 The Influence of ECW and Attitude Era53:50 The Downfall of Wrestling's Developmental System57:33 The Importance of Audience Connection01:08:43 Revisiting the Attitude Era01:22:10 Reimagining Kofi Kingston's Character01:22:48 The Role of Talent in Character Development01:23:14 Personal Experiences with Character Creation01:24:08 The Importance of Persona in Wrestling01:40:49 Building a Monster Heel: Kane's Journey01:43:26 The Art of Long-Term Storytelling01:53:29 The Role of Matches in Wrestling Business01:56:14 Critique of Modern Wrestling and Its Future01:58:00 The Best Match Debate: Hogan vs. Andre02:02:08 Final Thoughts and Closing Remarks
