The Thing in the Upper Room
By Arthur Morrison
Attwater, a poor, struggling English artist living in Paris, opts to rent a cheap apartment despite its haunted reputation. The room had remained unoccupied for years due to its grim history, but Attwater convinces himself that it is mere superstition that lies behind its notoriety. But as ghastly nightmares and an inexplicable feeling of exhaustion begin to take their toll, he realizes the source of the room’s ill repute may lie in more than just idle talk.
