Xavier Musketeers enter the 2026-27 season facing significant challenges following Thad Matta's retirement and a tenth-place Big East finish. We analyze the impact of portal transfers, the urgent need for rim protection, and guard depth issues that plagued the team last year. Our projections suggest a difficult start defensively, but offensive potential remains high.

We discuss key roster battles, including the search for interior defense and perimeter scoring options. Topics include transfer portal moves, projected roster cuts, and how Xavier compares to rivals like Butler and St. John's in the current landscape. Brett provides tactical insights on pick-and-roll coverage and switching schemes needed to improve defensive efficiency.

Our final prediction estimates Xavier will secure 18 or 19 wins this season, continuing a trend of struggle early in the year. We also examine how NCAA tournament expansion might benefit mid-major programs like Xavier if they can navigate the tough Big East schedule. Listen to hear our full breakdown of floor and ceiling scenarios for the Musketeers.
