  • The Myth of Having It All Figured Out | Dr Clare Anyiam-Osigwe BEM
    Oct 16 2026

What if you don't need to have your whole life figured out to be exactly where you're meant to be?

In this episode of Against All Odds, I'm joined by Dr Clare Anyiam-Osigwe BEM for an honest conversation about ambition, resilience, identity and finding purpose on your own terms.

From the pressure to have life sorted by a certain age to the realities of burnout, confidence and knowing when something simply isn't for you, Clare challenges some of the expectations we place on ourselves.

We talk about the difference between achievement and fulfilment, protecting what's important in an age of social media, and why sometimes the most meaningful decisions come from recognising that a particular path isn't yours to follow.

And there's a reminder worth holding on to: “It will take as long as it will take.”

  • Welcome to Against All Odds | Why I Started This Podcast | S1 E1
    Oct 2 2026

What if the people who look like they have life all figured out… really don’t?

Welcome to the very first episode of Against All Odds, a UK podcast about resilience, community, belonging and the real-life stories behind the people we think have it all together.

I’m Lynette Lucas, and before I ask anyone else to sit in the chair and share their story, it felt only right to tell you a little about mine and why, after thinking about starting a podcast for around five years, I finally stopped talking about it and actually did it. 🎙️

Because life rarely goes exactly to plan.

Behind the achievements, job titles and carefully curated social media posts are setbacks, changes of direction, moments of doubt and times when we’ve wondered whether everyone else got an instruction manual for life that somehow missed us.

In this opening episode, I share how growing up in Tottenham, more than 20 years working in the UK charity sector and my journey into equity, diversity and inclusion shaped the way I think about belonging, representation and whose voices get heard.

I also talk about the moment in 2020 that made me ask a simple question “What are we going to do?” and how that question eventually changed the direction of my work.

Most importantly, this episode explains why Against All Odds exists.

I've met people who started community groups because nobody else was helping, built charities from their kitchen tables and became advocates because of something they personally survived. They aren't extraordinary because they've never struggled or failed. They're extraordinary because they adapted, changed direction and kept going.

Those are the stories I want to make space for.

Throughout Against All Odds, we'll have honest conversations about adversity, resilience, purpose, hope and connection, while shining a light on UK charities, community organisations and support services doing incredible work in our communities.

Because sometimes hearing somebody else's story is the reminder we need that we're not as alone as we thought we were.

🧡 Real Lives, Real Stories, Real Purpose.

If you’re looking for honest stories, practical hope and a community that doesn’t pretend life is perfect, you’re in the right place. Follow Against All Odds on Spotify, share this episode with someone who might need it, and join me on Substack for more stories, reflections, community finds and the good people doing good things that I discover along the way. 🧡
