Her husband, Keith Papini, grew alarmed when he couldn’t find her and used a tracking app to locate her belongings, which were abandoned on the side of the road. This sparked a massive search effort, drawing attention from the local community and law enforcement.

    On Thanksgiving Day, three weeks later, Sherri reappeared on the side of a highway, injured and claiming she had been abducted by two Hispanic women. Her dramatic narrative of being held captive, branded, and physically abused captured national headlines and led to an extensive investigation. Authorities received over 800 tips and conducted numerous interviews, trying to piece together the mystery of her disappearance.
