  • Exodus - 47 - lesson 2 part 2 - Exod. 20:1-17
    Apr 29 2026

Our study on עשׂרת הדברים Aseret HaDevareem - the Ten Statements - of the Lord continues. In this lesson, lesson 2 part 2 of the introduction to the Ten Commandments, we ask how does the Ten Commandments witness of the Messiah, the Christ, Jesus. Jesus said it in John 5:39 ...

"You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me." (Joh 5:39)

... and all they had was the Hebrew Scriptures then, the Old Testament. How might these verses Exod. 20:1-17 testify of Jesus. Come on. Let's go see.

  • Exodus - 47 - lesson 2 part 1 - Exod. 20:1-17
    Apr 28 2026

Our study on עשׂרת הדברים Aseret HaDevareem - the Ten Statements - of the Lord continues. In this lesson, lesson 2 of the introduction to the Ten Commandments, we see the difference between simply studying the Ten Commandments as opposed to all the words God spoke as recorded on Exodus 20:1-17. In other words not only are we again putting the Bible into its historical context but putting the Ten Commandments back into their textual context. Quite simply you can not study the Ten Commandments without understanding the rest of the words God spoke that surround the Ten. This will be clear as we look at three topics.

The 1st is the fact by God's own words that the Sinai Covenant never was replaced! Christians say it was replaced. We will see something far more amazing and powerful.

2nd, we will look as the organization of the Ten Commandments. This we know ...

"It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed." When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God. (Exo 31:17-18)

God wrote them on two tablets. On both sides as well (Exod. 32:15). But, what was written on the front? The back? Were the two tablets copies of each other? Some say the Ten Commandments are in two groups. Group 1 is commandments 1 through 4 and the 2nd 5 through 10. I call it 4 by 6. Others say the 1st group is 1 through 5 and the 2nd 6 through 10. I call that 5 by 5. So what is it? The Torah is silent on all this. All we can do is consider some amazing possibilities.

Lastly, how did the Hebrews coming out of Egypt understand the words of Adonai in these verses. Or how did the disciples of Jesus understand them nearly 1500 years later. And how does this witness of the Messiah, the Christ, Jesus. Jesus said it in John 5:39 ...

"You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me." (Joh 5:39)

... and all they had was the Hebrew Scriptures then, the Old Testament. How might these verses testify of Jesus. Come on. Let's go see.

  • Exodus - 47 - lesson 1 part 1 - Exod. 20:1-17 - the Ten Commandments
    Apr 26 2026

Bible study on the Ten Commandments. This is not a study to re-teach the Ten Commandments. But as we put the Bible into its historical context, as we put the Bible back into its textual context, we begin to see things in a new light. This simply enriches our understanding of the Ten Commandments.

In Part 1 of lesson 1 we will ask if there are ten commandments or are they something else? And ten? Could there be 12 or 15 or 17 commandments? What is God's purpose in all this?

It is recommended that you listen to lesson 46 parts 1 & 2 first before jumping in to the extensive study of Exod. 20:1-17. Here's the links to lesson 46 parts 1 & 2.

  • Exodus - 46 part 2 - Exod. 19:1-25 - The Mountains of יהוה Adonai
    Apr 25 2026
Lesson 46 Part 2 It is critical that you make sure you listen to part 1 of this two part series. In part 1 we establish the real possibility that the Hebrews arrived on the 3rd day of the 3rd month. If this is the case then it seems as if יהוה Yahvay, the Lord, God, lead His people to His mountain to receive a new covenant at His mountain, Mt. Sinai. Interesting - 50 days after Passover, after the first day of Unleavened Bread, the Hebrews enter a covenant relationship with the Lord. This is an amazing event in that a new nation is born, a chosen people, and it's like a new beginning, a new start. It reminds me of the Year of Jubilee - every 50 years it is the year of Jubilee. The Year of the Jubilee involved a year of release from indebtedness (Leviticus 25:23-38) and all types of bondage (vv. 39-55). All prisoners and captives were set free, all slaves were released, all debts were forgiven, and all property was returned to its original owners. (Like a new start) In addition, all labor was to cease for one year, and those bound by labor contracts were released from them. One of the benefits of the Jubilee was that both the land and the people were able to rest. (Accessed at https://www.gotquestions.org/Jubilee.html July 25,2022) Link to Exodus Lesson 49 Part 1 - https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-uhhag-127e43f In this session we will see the awesome connection this has to the feast of Shavuot (Weeks) or Pentecost in Jesus' day. Jesus rose from the dead on a Biblical feast, the feast of first fruits, and 50 days later the 120 disciples received the Holy Spirit and these 120 as the "light to the nations" spoke in tongues of the Salvation of the Lord, the "Yeshua" of יהוה Yahvay. It was the New Covenant of the Lord at the mountain of the Lord, Jerusalem. Peter become so inspired, he does a short sermon in Acts 2 and as a result 3000 were baptized on the 50th day, Shavuot or Pentecost. Did he received the promised power to be the witness to the nations? You better believe it. So, the number 50 even takes on even more significance. Now it seems to be related to the days of Messiah and the coming of the רוח הקודש Ruach HaKodesh, the Holy Spirit. The Jubilee presents a beautiful picture of the New Testament themes of redemption and forgiveness. Christ is the Redeemer who came to set free those who are slaves and prisoners to sin (Romans 8:2; Galatians 5:1; 3:22). The debt of sin we owe to God was paid on the cross as Jesus died on our behalf (Colossians 2:13-14), and we are forgiven the debt forever. We are no longer in bondage, no longer slaves to sin, having been freed by Christ, and we can truly enter the rest God provides as we cease laboring to make ourselves acceptable to God by our own works (Hebrews 4:9-10). (Accessed at https://www.gotquestions.org/Jubilee.html July 25,2022) God has clearly done something on purpose. He has connected the New Covenant at His mountain, Mt. Sinai, to the New Covenant at His mountain, Jerusalem. The giving of the Ten Commandments is intimately connected to Pentecost or Shavuot. Here's a link to the podcast series on the feast of Shavuot. • Genesis - 77 - Genesis 31, 32, 33 - Rabbinic Views, Rachel Executed, Curses, Tradition and Camels!!
    Apr 24 2026

Poor Rachel, the love of Jacob's life, is supposedly executed by God for stealing the families "gods." Rabbis in Rabbinic Judaism (Judaism after the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D., claimed that Jacob cursed Rachel, unintentionally but cursed neverthess. Thus, Rachel will be killed by God in childbirth. But, all this rabbinic opinion, made up views, with NO basis in scripture. The very word of God suggests no such claims as the rabbis made.

For example, in the "Chumash," the Orthodox Rabbinic Torah commentary, the rabbis state Jacob cursed Rachel. They go on to say that God will uphold a curse even it its unintentional. Huh? No where in the Bible do we find God's word supporting such a view. No where. Matter of fact thsi view of the rabbis about curses is actually contradicted in God's word. If you recall the one who stole the special cup of Joseph when Joseph was "hidden" from his brothers since he was 2nd in power in Egypt, was supposedly Benjamin. But, this was a set up by Joseph. Then we read about the curse on whoever stole the cup as we read ...

"Behold, the money which we found in the mouth of our sacks we have brought back to you from the land of Canaan. How then could we steal silver or gold from your lord's house? "With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord's slaves." (Gen 44:8-9)

This is similar to the way Jacob supposedly "cursed" Rachel when we read ...

"Now you have indeed gone away because you longed greatly for your father's house; but why did you steal my gods?" Then Jacob replied to Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I thought that you would take your daughters from me by force. "The one with whom you find your gods shall not live; in the presence of our kinsmen point out what is yours among my belongings and take it for yourself." For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them. (Gen 31:30-32)

Rachel died in childbirth and the rabbis say she was cursed. On top of tha thte rabbis say God will uphold our curses even if they are made by mistake. But, the brothers of Joseph supposedly "curse" Benjamin. It was unintentional since they did not know the whole truth. Yet Benjamin lives! He does not die. God did not uphold an unintetional curse. The rabbis are wrong.

This tradition seeps into the church. Many naive Christians have taken up the beliefs and views of the orthodix rabbis. LIttle do they know or understand what the Bible says and the what the Bible doesn't say. It's like many Christians believe that all God's feasts in the Old Testament are Sabbaths. THEY ARE NOT! Even Jewish sources will tell they are not. Check out this link. An orthodox Jewish site that teaches about the feasts and they are not sabbaths but are treated like sabbaths - https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/708510/jewish/How-to-Celebrate-Yom-Tov.htm

It was the Pharisees who claimed they were. The Pharisees are the ones who were the predecessors of Orthodix Rabbic Judaism. This is one example of how naive unknowledgeable Christians believe a tradtion of he Pharisees and the rabbis and it is Biblically wrong.

One thing we read about in the story of Jacob and his family leaving Haran and traveling to Israel, are camels. There are those who say camels were no domesticated befire 1000 B.C. and thus they ake the claim the Bible is not true but made by those early Hebrew writers. But, real archaeology poves these supposed scholars wrong. Check out the article and videos to help you go deeper in your Bible understanding.
