Mr Brake Down is a drag king, actor, singer and the founder of The Upside Down Cabaret. Joining a LGBTQ+ choir helped him become the man he was born to be. Brake talks about the drag community, poking fun at masculinity and patriarchy, and how trans people are getting on with their lives joyfully.

Joining the LGBTQ+ community later in life can feel daunting. Brake suggests looking for LGBTQ+ spaces, whether that’s a book group, a choir or a cabaret night. He also loves transgender charities Mermaids, Sparkle, Not A Phase and Trans Without Abuse, especially the work of Debbie Cannon, and the work of non-for-profit The Good Law Project.

She has two grown up children and, following her divorce, chose the ‘women’ option on a dating app. Sandra talks about the importance of finding your chosen family and the joy of meeting other black queer women. Chris Smith is a retired laboratory technician. He grew up in a religious family, married a woman and had three children. He always knew he was gay and, after losing his wife, joined the community and eventually found love with a man. Chris talks about faith, family, love and self-acceptance.
