  • Project Runway Canada Brings the Heat in Episode 1 Elimination | Interview with Naomi Shindak
    Nov 20 2025

Welcome back to Late Night Scrolling 🪩

Project Runway Canada is BACK and I couldn’t be happier to see one of my all-time favourite competition shows streaming on Crave. It’s as shady, fierce, and competitive as ever with $100,000 on the line from TD and a feature spread in my favourite magazine, ELLE Canada.

Every Thursday we’re catching up with the eliminated designers, which is always so much fun EXCEPT when it’s people I wanted to see go ALL THE WAY. And unfortunately, we’re kicking things off with THE diva of the season, NAOMI.

Naomi absolutely gagged me with this signature denim look. Not gonna lie, I would wear this!! But was this Week 1 elimination worthy? LMK in the comments!

New episodes of Project Runway Canada are streaming Fridays on Crave. Watch along with me and tune into the pod on Thursdays for interviews with this season’s designers!

Follow Naomi on Instagram: @showponynaomi & @abnoxiousdesigns and TikTok @showponynaomi

Naomi Shindak is a Winnipeg-based designer and founder of ABNOXIOUS, a brand known for fearless individuality. She crafts eclectic designs that mesh sexy form-fits with oversized silhouettes. Naomi is influenced by denim, 70s swagger, and maximalist prints, and thrives under pressure.

Canadian pop-rock is more than alive and well, it’s absolutely thriving with the coolest kids in the country Valley and The Beaches on tour together.

I caught up with Valley at SOMMO Festival to get real nostalgic about one year of their incredible main-character-energy album Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden, the TV shows and festival experiences that made us, and what’s next for their new music.

  • Behind the Scenes of the Degrassi Craze with Melinda Shankar and Lauren Toyota
    Oct 10 2025

Welcome back to Late Night Scrolling 🪩

There is no Canadian pop culture without Degrassi, so when Degrassi:Whatever It Takes was announced in the TIFF lineup, I was expecting big things: a red carpet that would shut down King Street in ways reminiscent to the Queen Street Live at Much Music days, stars from all generations coming together in celebration, a nostalgic trip down memory lane of the show that defined modern CanCon…

But that’s not what we got. Much to the shock and chagrin of those of us who wanted a HUGE spectacle of a moment that could rival what Drake made in his music video:

While there was a premiere in the TIFF Lightbox that hosted some cast that appeared in the documentary, the scale and vibes were not the spectacle many of us anticipated. And once you see the documentary… you get it.

I won’t spoil the documentary for you, but it is really real look at the behind the scenes, what the cast (the majority of which were minors!) dealt with and how they felt through the process, and narratives that ultimately led co-creator Linda Schuyler to file (and eventually pull) a lawsuit ahead of the TIFF premiere.

But one thing that will never change in the Degrassi legacy is how much this show meant to the fans. We haven’t seen a show shape Canadian teen culture the way Degrassi has, and putting that piece of the puzzle under the microscope is where I wanted to focus this episode and these conversations.

At the heart of the Degrassi craze that I grew up with was the After Degrassi show hosted by Much Music VJs. These were live shows unpacking the episode we all just watched with cast, fan questions, games and more. ICYMI, here’s a taste (and this is the episode I’m referencing in my conversation with Lauren):

PS: My full conversation with Lauren is up next on the pod, stay tuned!

It was so great to talk to Melinda Shankar who of course played Alli on Degrassi: The Next Generation and Lauren Toyota who was one of the iconic Much Music VJs who hosted the Degrassi After Show amongst many other live watch-along specials.

Have you seen the Degrassi: Whatever It Takes documentary? I’m so excited to talk about this one with you all so get in the comments or come chat on Instagram with me.

  • Is this really The Life of a Showgirl?
    Oct 3 2025

Late Night Scrolling is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Welcome back to Late Night Scrolling! 🪩

The Life of a Showgirl has been out for about ~13 hours at the time of my writing this (the numerology never fails), and already I have been on a journey with this album.

Over 31,000 of you stopped by our live first-listen party last night. What an experience we had. The sheer shock of this album hit us like a bus Regina George style (and how perfect that metaphor is for Mean Girls day October 3!)

Now that I’ve had some time to digest and analyze it, I see what I missed in our first listen through: the life of a showgirl is not the glitz and glamour and feathers and glitter we see from the audience, it’s the longing for normalcy and a life that feels like your own.

Wherever you stand with this album, I really hope this analysis helps you discover new angles and pockets of this album to enjoy — because there is a lot of good here to celebrate! And there’s also healthy criticisms and questions to ask — that’s the life of a culture critic, baby. I’m glad we have a space where we can get into the nuance of it all.

The thing I’m the most excited about? Already The Life of a Showgirl has grown on me. And I know it will continue to over the coming days and weeks. Retrospect and hindsight are going to go soooo hard here. I can’t wait to revisit!

I’m off to pre-tape a few more interviews about the album and then I’m off to the movie theatre to see the behind the scenes film being released alongside this album. I’ll post some videos on Instagram and TikTok with quick reactions as they come, and I hope to see you in the comments!

  • Dropout set to take over Just for Laughs Toronto
    Sep 26 2025

Welcome back to Late Night Scrolling Canada 🪩

When I saw Dropout Improv in Brooklyn, NY in January, I left with three thoughts:

    * This is the best audience participation show on the market

    * This is everything fans of streamer Dropout TV want in a live experience

    * Canadian audiences would eat this show up

Since then the show stopped by Just for Laughs Montreal and Vancouver, and now it’s finally come home to Toronto.

And a homecoming it is set to be for Vic Michaelis, host of Dropout’s viral smash-hit (and buzzy Emmys contender) Very Important People. In this interview you’ll hear Vic talk about what it means to bring this show to their hometown crowd, in the same venue that the Jonas Brothers recently caused chaos in just months ago!

If you make it to the show, please get in the comments and let me know how it was. I was supposed to be there to celebrate with y’all but alas, the life of a showgirl must go on! Lots of surprises coming over the next few days so make sure you’re following in real time over on Instagram and TikTok.
