  • The Legacy of Jen Young
    Nov 25 2025

Today you get to meet Jen Young. Like the other women you’ve met on the podcast, we go way back. She has been my training buddy and friend since 2012 and she was one of the first athletes that I coached. She is a professor by day, master gardener, jane-of-all-trades and most importantly, Jen helped create the 4G training and racing mantra: gusto, gumption, gruel and grace. She has the spiritual gift of instigation, and I blame her for my addiction to IRON distance racing. She really has the power to inspire anyone to do anything with her confidence and fire. She is a multi-time IRONMAN with a lot of stories to tell. Please welcome: Jennifer Young

  • The Legacy of Sami Winter
    Mar 10 2025

Before we get started, I want to let you know that this wasa part of my car talk series. Sami and I were headed to IRONMAN Chattanooga 70.3 in 2023 and I decided to get her story on record. There is a lot of car noise and bantering and, because there was a BUCEES, we cut our interview short. But, you get to hear her unique story of qualifying for Kona. One of these days, I’ll get her in the studio for more triathlontall tales. But for now ....

Please meet Dr. Sami Winter. Like many of the women I’vetalked with, Sami and I go waaaaaay back. She was one of my first coaches when I started triathlon with the YDUBTRICLUB in 2010. She has been a coach mentor, training buddy and road trip warrior with me ever since. Plus, she coached me to Kona in 2023.

Not only is Sami everyone’s favorite veterinarian in town, but she is also everyone’s favorite coach and athlete. She has done it all. She has done 122 triathlons including 32 fullsand 44 halfs. She even auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys when she turned 40.

She has mastered the Art of Coaching and racing and as you’ll find out, she’s mastered the art of snacking.

It is my pleasure to introduce: SAMI WINTER.

  • Legacy of Erin Green
    Jan 24 2025

Today you get to meet Dr. Erin Green. Erin is one of my endurance heroes. Her adventures have taken her around the world for some amazing endurance events. Not only did she chase and earn her Legacy spot to Kona, but she also has done a half-dozen XTREME iron distance races. [You’ll find out which one she won when you listen.]

On top of all that she recently earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington after 20 years of teaching math in public schools in North Carolina. Please welcome, Erin Green.

[This is another one in the series of triathletes in cars with bikes. Please excuse the minimal production quality.]
