There are three groups of 'wise' people in this passage:

King Herod who was petrified at the news Christ was born and responded with fear which leaked into the city of Jerusalem.

The Chief Priests who advised Herod and were able to discern what the signs meant, but didn't act.

The visiting Magi who saw the star and rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. They bought their treasures to the city and caused a scene, scaring King Herod.

Who in the story do you want to be like? John encourages us to position ourselves as a wise man and worship the only one who is Holy. Don't go into 2026 the same way you were in 2025.
