    Mar 14 2025

In this episode, we have the distinct honor of hosting Bhavesh "Bav" Shah, the esteemed High Sheriff of Bedfordshire. Appointed on March 23, 2024, Bav brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this historic role.

Understanding the Role of High Sheriff:

The position of High Sheriff is one of the oldest secular offices in the United Kingdom, dating back over a millennium. Traditionally, the High Sheriff was the sovereign's representative in a county for all matters relating to the judiciary and the maintenance of law and order. While many responsibilities have evolved over time, today, the role is largely ceremonial, encompassing duties such as attending royal visits, supporting the judiciary, and promoting community initiatives.

    Highlights from Our Conversation:

    • Personal Connection: Bav and I reminisce about our initial meeting, reflecting on the shared experiences that have strengthened our bond over time.

    • The Iconic Uniform: We delve into the significance of the High Sheriff's traditional attire. Bav shares amusing anecdotes about the curious and often humorous remarks he receives from the public, shedding light on the uniform's historical importance and its contemporary perception.

    • A Tremendous Honor: Bav articulates the profound sense of pride and responsibility he feels in serving as High Sheriff. He emphasises the privilege of upholding such a venerable tradition and his commitment to making a positive impact in Bedfordshire during his tenure.

Join us for this enlightening discussion as we explore the rich history of the High Sheriff's office and gain insight into Bav Shah's journey and aspirations in this distinguished position.
