    SUNDAY DISH

Week three of The Good Life explores why the character of church leaders matters to everyone they serve. In 1 Timothy 3, Paul emphasizes that leadership is about character, not celebrity. The way we live should make the message of Jesus believable, and the Holy Spirit helps us close the gaps between our faith and daily lives.

    Q1: Who’s Picking Dinner?

When a group can’t decide where to eat, do you take charge or wait for someone else to choose?

Q2: Trust in the Small Things

Think of someone you trust. What have you noticed about how they treat people when no one is watching?

    Q3: Leadership at Believers

Jamey, how is leadership structured at Believers, and how are potential leaders evaluated before being entrusted with people?

    Q4: Servants, Not Celebrities

Who helps church leaders stay accountable, and how can we encourage our leaders without putting them on a pedestal?

    Q5: Making Faith Believable

When our actions have damaged trust, what does honest repair look like personally and as a church?

    Q6: One Gap, One Step

If someone sees several gaps between their faith and daily life, how can they choose one next step without feeling overwhelmed?

Follow-up: What does depending on the Holy Spirit look like as we make that change?

    SUNDAY DISH

This week on The Good Life, Heather takes us through 1 Timothy 2, exploring the importance of praying for everyone and navigating some of Scripture’s more challenging passages. We’re reminded to keep Jesus at the center, even when we encounter difficult questions or differences of opinion.

    Q1: First of All, Pray

Heather, can you share the prayer of John of the Cross and what it teaches us about prayer?

Follow-up: Why is praying for all people so important, and what makes prayer challenging for us?

    Q2: A Church That Prays

Doug, what’s the vision behind the Prayer Team, and how can someone get involved?

    Q3: When Scripture Is Difficult

What makes this passage challenging, and how should we approach parts of the Bible that seem confusing or divisive?

    Q4: Culture or Jesus?

How can we recognize when culture is shaping our beliefs more than Jesus? What was happening in Ephesus that helps us understand Paul’s instructions?

    Q5: Back to the Garden

What is Paul communicating in verses 13–15, and how should we understand this passage in the context of the larger discussion?

    Q6: Unity Through Disagreement

Can Christians disagree on challenging passages like this and still maintain unity? How do we keep the main thing the main thing?

    BIBLE READING CHALLENGE
    Isaiah 19–36, Ephesians 2–6, Philippians 1–2

    SUNDAY DISH

We kicked off our new fall series, The Good Life, with 1 Timothy 1. Jamey challenged us to consider what people see when they look at Jesus’ church. Paul confronts teaching that creates insiders and outsiders, then points to his own story as evidence of Jesus’ mercy and patience. The goal? Let God’s grace form us into people whose love makes Jesus visible.

Q1: When Have You Felt Like an Outsider?

When was the last time you walked into a place where you didn’t know anyone? What helped you feel welcome?

    Q2: When Traditions Divide

What are some ways Christian traditions or preferences can create insiders and outsiders?

Follow-up: Who has made following Jesus appealing to you by the way they lived?

    Q3: The Goal Is Love

Paul says the goal of his instruction is love. How can we tell the difference between teaching that forms us in Jesus and arguments that simply make us feel right?

    Q4: Grace That Changes Us

“Most people do not need to be told they’re failing; they need to be reminded God loves them in spite of it.” How do we offer that reassurance while still inviting people to be changed by Jesus?

    Q5: Making Jesus Visible

The Big Idea says, “The way of Jesus becomes believable when it becomes visible in us.” When is it easiest—or hardest—for you to display the Good Life?

Follow-up: Who might we need to move toward as a church family?

    Q6: Still Becoming

What would you say to someone who feels like their slow progress means they’re failing?

Follow-up: What’s one hopeful next step they can take this week?
