    Welcome back to MuniCast!

Today, we’re continuing our conversation around leadership in Saskatchewan, with a focus on women in municipal leadership.

We’re joined by three inspiring municipal leaders from communities across the province to talk about their experiences, the importance of diverse voices, and building the next generation of municipal leaders.

MuniCast is brought to you by SUMA, the voice of Saskatchewan’s urban municipalities. SUMA is proud to represent the urban communities that over 80% of Saskatchewan residents call home.

MuniCast discusses issues related to local governance and municipal leadership.

In Season 11 we returning to MuniCast's roots and focusing on leadership and cooperation.

Today on MuniCast, we’re looking at the important role of collaboration in local government, with a particular focus on the relationships between municipal governments and First Nations communities across Saskatchewan.

Joining us for today’s discussion are Bonnie Evans, Senior Advisor, and Bradly Swiftwolfe, Executive Director, both with the Battlefords Regional Community Coalition.

We’ll explore how municipalities and First Nations can build strong, respectful relationships, the importance of trust and collaboration, and how those partnerships can contribute to stronger communities and better outcomes for everyone.

We’ll also hear about the experience of the Battlefords Regional Community Coalition — how the partnership began, what led to the formation of the coalition, what has made it successful, and what lessons other communities can take from their experience.

That discussion is right after this message from SUMA.

Welcome to Season 10 of Muni-Cast.

Today we are discussing the Municipal Marvels Student Challenge, which invites Saskatchewan students in grades 5 and up to become innovators and community problem-solvers.

Working in teams, students identify a real-world issue in their community — such as waste reduction, energy use, water conservation, transportation, or climate change — and research creative, sustainable solutions.

With support from teachers and mentors, students develop project plans that connect science, social impact, and curriculum areas like Science, Social Studies, Arts Education, and Practical and Applied Arts.

This year's Municipal Marvels challenge was presented at the 2026 SUMA Convention and Tradeshow, where students presented their ideas to municipal leaders from across Saskatchewan.

This authentic showcase helps students build confidence, civic engagement, and future-ready skills while seeing their ideas valued by their communities.

We caught up with Sandy Baumgartner he Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatchewan Science Centre, to discuss the Municipal Marvel Program and how it has sparked creativity from Saskatchewan youth regarding today's municipal challenges.
