  • Muted in Medicine — 50 Episodes, Grief, and the Story Behind the Podcast
    Oct 19 2026

In this solo episode marking 50 episodes of Muted in Medicine, host Saba Fatima reflects on the podcast’s origins, her experiences with medical trauma, and the sudden loss of her father. She shares how facing a malpractice lawsuit and the aftermath of an unexpected patient death—including depression, survivor’s guilt, and second victim syndrome—helped inspire her to create a space for the difficult stories medicine often leaves unspoken.

The episode is also a tribute to her father: a poet, mentor, and devoted supporter who encouraged her creativity and helped the podcast grow. Saba speaks candidly about grief, loneliness, anxiety, and the challenge of imagining future achievements without the person she most wanted to share them with. She closes with two lines from her father’s poem, in Urdu and English.
