Hosted by Dr. Brooks Demming, business coach, author, and creator of the R.I.S.E. Coaching Framework, this podcast explores the leadership, HR, and operational challenges that quietly create pressure inside growing businesses.

Each episode takes a Coaching Lens approach to the real issues entrepreneurs face as their businesses grow, including leadership clarity, HR strategy, founder burnout, team structure, and decision-making.

If you’ve ever felt like your business depends too much on you, or that success has created more pressure instead of more freedom, this podcast will help you understand why.

  • 101| Coaching Lens: Visibility Is Not Credibility
    Jun 5 2026

Everybody wants the fast track: six figures, brand deals, clients, and the freedom that comes with “scaling.” But there’s a darker trend growing inside online entrepreneurship and business coaching culture: people teaching what they’ve never built, coaching what they’ve never sustained, and leading with borrowed language instead of lived experience. I’m Dr. Brooks Deming, and I’m pulling the curtain back on how false expertise spreads, why it’s so persuasive, and how it quietly drains entrepreneurs of money, time, and trust.

We talk about the biggest confusion I see right now: visibility getting treated like credibility. A big following, confident delivery, luxury branding, and polished content can look like proof, but presentation is not operational excellence. We dig into why desperation changes discernment, how certainty gets sold to overwhelmed founders, and the specific questions you should ask before you invest in a coach, course, or “scaling” program. This is a practical conversation about due diligence, sustainable business systems, leadership competency, and protecting your momentum.

Then we flip the mirror. It’s easy to point at scammers while slowly becoming one ourselves through exaggeration, performance, or pretending we’re ready for rooms we don’t have the capacity to lead. If you’re still learning, there’s no shame in saying so. Real growth looks like consistency, discipline, refinement, and time, and integrity is the difference between a brand that looks successful and a business that can actually last.

If this hits home, subscribe to Off Balance, share it with a builder who needs it, and leave a review so more entrepreneurs can find conversations rooted in clarity and integrity.

  • 100| When Credentials Speak Louder Than Skill
    Jun 2 2026

Episode 100 felt like the right time to talk about something many professionals sense but rarely name out loud: prestige bias at work. I’m talking about the moment a school name, company logo, title, or network walks into the room before you do and suddenly people “know” what you can do without seeing you do it. That shortcut can sound efficient, but it can also distort hiring, promotion decisions, mentorship access, and whose voice gets treated as credible.

I unpack how institutional signaling fuels fast judgments and how the halo effect makes one positive marker spill into assumed intelligence, discipline, and leadership potential. I’m careful to say this is not an anti-education argument. Great institutions can open doors and create real opportunity. The problem starts when prestige becomes a substitute for discernment and when organizations confuse perceived safety with proven capability.

We also get practical about what leaders should evaluate instead: judgment, communication, adaptability, emotional maturity, integrity, and consistency under pressure. Those traits show up during conflict, deadlines, uncertainty, and accountability, not just during interviews. And if you’ve ever felt underestimated because of your background, accent, age, personality, or pathway, I share the mindset that keeps you moving: keep building, keep learning, and build a body of work so strong it becomes hard to ignore. If this resonates, subscribe, share it with someone navigating their career, and leave a review so more people can find the conversation.

  • 99| The Peter Principle In Ministry
    May 26 2026

You can love God, serve hard, and still be set up to fail by a promotion you were never prepared to carry. I’m Dr. Brooks Deming, and I’m naming a leadership problem many church teams feel but rarely say out loud: ministries often elevate people based on visibility, loyalty, or gifting, then act surprised when communication breaks down, conflict rises, volunteers burn out, and the culture turns unhealthy.

We dig into the Peter Principle and why it shows up so often in church leadership and nonprofit ministry leadership. A great worship leader, usher, or volunteer can be exceptional in a role and still lack the next-level competencies that leadership demands: delegation, coaching, accountability, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, boundaries, operations, and strategic decision making. When we confuse spiritual passion with leadership competence, we don’t just stress out the leader, we create systems where people get hurt and dysfunction gets mislabeled as “spiritual authority.”

Then we get practical about solutions that actually build sustainable leadership: mentorship before authority, training before elevation, leadership coaching, emotional intelligence development, clear accountability, healthier systems, and real leadership pipelines. Calling is real, but stewardship requires preparation, and preparation is not a lack of faith.

If you’ve seen burnout praised as sacrifice or control mistaken for strength, share this with a leader who cares about doing better. Subscribe to Off Balance, leave a review, and send this episode to a friend who needs language for what they’ve been experiencing.
